Kelly Clarkson was moved to tears by Henry Winkler on her talk show
Kelly Clarkson teared up on her talk show this week after Henry Winkler offered some beautiful yet simple advice to her little girl who has dyslexia.
The veteran actor, 77, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday. He talked about his success as an author on the show. Winkler, as a dyslexic person himself, had a message for Kelly’s young daughter River, 8, who is also dyslexic.
Clarkson, 40 shared with Winkler:
“I was driving my daughter to school yesterday, and she’s dyslexic. And you have told me that you’re dyslexic as well. I find that amazing, to tell my daughter that you’ve written like 40 books and you’re dyslexic.”
After that, she revealed that her daughter was “getting bullied at school for not being able to read like all the other kids.”
Winkler pointed out that 1 in 5 children is diagnosed with dyslexia and went on to share a direct message to River. Looking directly at the camera, he said:
“She’s part of the tribe! River! How you learn has nothing to do with how brilliant you are.”
Clarkson teared up at the moment. She wiped her tears with a tissue and said:
“Oh, fine. It’s fine. My makeup artist is going to kill me.”

The couple got married in 2013 and their divorce was finalized in March 2022.
Clarkson has previously opened up about her family. In an episode of Angie Martinez’s IRL Podcast, she shared that her children have been candid with her about their opinions on their parent’s divorce while getting ready for bed.

She explained:
“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re snuggling, ‘Are you happy? And if you’re not, what could make you happier?’”
She added:
“A lot of times it would be like, ‘You know, I’m just really sad. I wish mommy and daddy were in the same house.’ And they’re really honest about it. And I’m raising that kind of individual.”
The singer noted that while it hurt her to hear her children, she understood them as she herself experienced the same thing when her own parents got divorced when she was a child.
She said:
“I just sit there and I’m like, ‘I get it. I’m from a divorced family as well. I get it. That sucks. But we’re going to work it out. And you are so loved by both of us.’”
Kelly also went on to explain why she likes to talk to her children about the breakup:
“I think communicating with them … and not treating them like an adult, because they’re noot, but not treating them like a child. They’re not small feelings. Those are huge feelings, and those are huge emotions.”
