In 1995, she opened her own business, Kelly Wearstler Interior Design (Kwid, or KWID). It was going well and in 2000, she designed a three-star hotel, Maison 40 hotel in Beverly Hills.

Other hotels which she designed are Viceroy Hotels and Resorts, The Tides Hotel South Beach in Miami, BG Restaurant, in Manhattan, and Hard Rock Hotel in Los Angeles.

She penned books like Modern Glamour: The Art of Unexpected Style in March 2004, and Rhapsody in 2012. In July 2007, she opened a retail boutique in a home-furnishing department. The next year, she expanded her business by adding jewelry, scarves, bags, and belts.

She also designed the celebrity houses including Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale.
