Kim Kardashian and her revelation of her skin condition
The reality TV star Kim Kardashian has posted an essay on Poosh, her sister Kourtney Kardashian’s new website which she launched last year. Kim said that when she was 25 years old, dermatologists diagnosed her as suffering from psoriasis. The red and flaky patch came up on her skin after a cold.
She wrote:
“I got a common cold, and since psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, this triggered it. It was all over my stomach and legs,”
Her skin condition went into remission when she took treatment from a qualified dermatologist but it returned when she was in her early thirties.
The comeback of psoriasis and the joint involvement
The reality TV star disclosed that after the skin condition relapsed after eight years, it took to affect her joints. She wrote candidly:
“For the past eight years, although the spots are unpredictable, I can always count on my main spot on my right lower leg, which consistently stays flared up,”
When she was pregnant with North and Saint, her psoriasis was under control and in fact, completely disappeared. Earlier this year, it returned in an extremely bad form to involve her hand joints.
She explained:
“It covered my whole face and a majority of my entire body,”
Kim, 38 added that she could not pick up even a toothbrush due to her joint pains. She thought she had developed rheumatoid arthritis and the initial blood tests were positive for it as well as lupus. But later she came to know that the results were false-positive and she had psoriatic arthritis. She wrote:
“It’s similar to arthritis that can stem from psoriasis and it can come and go,”
1 in 5 people with psoriasis can develop arthritis.
Kim Kardashian displays positivity
Kim added:
“It’s still painful and scary, but I was happy to have a diagnosis. No matter what autoimmune condition I had, I was going to get through it, and they are all manageable with proper care.”
Further, she shared:
“If you have psoriasis, you can’t let it ruin your life or get the best of you. You have to do what you can do make sure you are comfortable but not let it take over.
“I live a healthy life and try to eat as plant-based as possible and drink sea moss smoothies. With all the stress in life, I try to make sure I take time for myself so that I am centred and keep my stress to a minimum.”
She concluded with:
“I hope that my story will help anyone else with an autoimmune disease feel confident that there is light at the end of the tunnel”.
