Laverne Cox Becomes the First Trans Actress to have a Barbie Designed after her!

Laverne Cox is Mattel’s first-ever trans-Barbie
Laverne Cox couldn’t have asked for a better gift on turning 50. The Emmy-winning actress and LGBTQ activist have made history by becoming the first person to have her own Barbie.
It happened at a time when advocates are stating that transgender rights are under legislative attack across the world.
The Orange Is the New Black star is glad about the recognition she received and went on to say that she hoped the doll would help people dream big.
The doll which goes on sale for $40 is the latest release of toymaker Mattel. The company also is working to remake Barbie’s leggy blonde version.
Cox went on to reveal her traumatic childhood when she was shamed and bullied for wanting to own a Barbie.
She also revealed that she ultimately got one for herself years after she got therapy.

Ms. Cox said:
“I went out and bought a Barbie doll and played with her and dressed her and it was a way for me to heal my inner child.”
She went on to reveal that her mother sent her a Barbie as her Christmas present.
Laverne talks about her Barbie doll
Cox worked closely with Mattel for creating her historic Barbie. The doll originally is dressed in a red tulle ballgown. It can be refashioned in different outfits too.
The actress hopes that the doll would remind parents to support their children of all genders who love playing with dolls.
She hopefully said:
”It’s incredibly meaningful for me to have my Barbie doll for so many reasons. I hope that kids of all gender identities can look at this Barbie and dream.”
She further added:
”The space of play, playing with dolls, the space of creating worlds with dolls is that space of dreaming. now kids get to dream with a Laverne Cox Barbie, the first transgender Barbie – that is a beautiful space of dreaming and possibility.”
Laverne’s Barbie is definitely an inspiration to all the trans people and it is paving way for people of all genders to be proud of their identities.
