Lawrence Turman is no longer alive among us! He passed away at the age of 96.

The Oscar-nominated producer took his last breath on Saturday, July, 1, at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif.

Lawrence is survived by three sons, John, Andrew, and Peter. He has also grandchildren, Audrey Suzanne, Carter Isaac, Georgia Simone, and Olivia Veranique; and two nieces, Katherine and Suzanna.

Film sector

Over the course of his 50-year Hollywood career, Lawrence worked on more than 30 movies, including The Great White Hope, Pretty Poison, and American History X.

In addition, he was also the chair of USC’s Peter Stark Producing program from 1991 until his retirement in 2021.

After his graduation from UCLA, he began working as an agent before moving into producing. In 1974, he partnered with producer David Foster and founded a film production company, Turman Foster Co.

They made their first movie Stuart Rosenberg’s The Drowning Pool starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. From the production, they made films such as Caveman, Heroes, The Thing, Running Scared, the 1994 reboot of The Getaway, and The River Wild.

However, the two parted ways in 1991 after Turman departed to lead the prestigious Peter Stark Producing Program at USC. He lasted at the university until his retirement in 2021.

Turman continued to produce into the 2000s while at USC, he directed and produced Marriage of a Young Stockbroker and Second Thoughts, both starring Lucie Arnaz.

Author

He was an author as well. He wrote a book about his Hollywood career titled So You Want to Be a Producer, published in 2005.

He wrote in the book,

“I initiate every single film project upon which I work; most of them would not have seen the light of day had I not decided to make them. I’m the starter and also the finisher.”
