At last!!! The lawsuit filed by former director of The Walking Dead TV series and CAA against AMC gets a trial date of 2020!
The director of the TV series The Walking Dead Frank Darabont and Creative Artists Agency (CAA) have seen some ray of hope. It has been more than five years that they sued AMC over profit shares of the show. The half-a-decade old case has now got a trial date and also a new Judge.
Justice Joel Cohen gives a trial date to The Walking Dead lawsuit
Justice Joel Cohen took over the charge of the case after the previous judge Justice Eileen Bransten retired at the end of last year. Joel Cohen told the lawyers of both sides that the trial of the case would commence on 11 May 2020. He also said that the jury selection for this case would be done from 4 May 2020 and he feels that the trial would take around a month to decide.
Joel also informed the parties that he is linking this case with the other case filed by the director of Shawshank Redemption and the uber-agency against the cabler in early 2018.
The reaction of the parties and Lawyers
There was joy in members of both parties. Both sides claimed that it was a victory for them and their crews. Lawyer Chad Fitzgerald of Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert for Frank Darabont and CAA said:
“We are thrilled that Justice Cohen set a trial date, and we look forward to trying both the original self dealing case and additional audit claims before a jury.”
The AMC main attorney Orin Snyder said:
“We look forward to our day in court and proving that this case is nothing more than a money grab by CAA and a gang of Hollywood lawyers who have already been paid millions and millions of dollars for their participation in The Walking Dead,”
A lot of things have happened in the last five years and it is likely that a lot may happen between now and May 2020.
