Michelle Rounds’ suspected suicide

The ex-wife of American actress cum comedian Rosie O’Donnell, Michelle Rounds died of an apparent suicide on 11 September 2017. Michelle was just 46 years old when she expired.

Michelle had attempted suicide in September 2015 towards the fag end of her divorce from her lesbian partner Rosie O’Donnell. Rosie, 55 gave a statement to US Weekly after the death.

She said:

“I am saddened to hear about this terrible tragedy. Mental illness is a very serious issue affecting many families. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle’s family, her wife and their child.”

Michelle Rounds was at the DoubleTree Hotel in Nanuet. An unidentified person suspected something fishy and alerted the Clarkstown police.

The cops came in immediately and broke open Michelle’s hotel room door which was probably locked up from inside.

She was found lying unconscious in the room and was taken to Nyack Hospital where she was declared dead. A postmortem has been conducted and the report is awaited.

An insider revealed:

“She had apparently taken some pills and drank wine. It looked to be a suicide attempt.” 

Michelle Rounds’ relationships

Michelle worked as an executive search consultant. She was said to be a former recruiter for a New York-based IT company called Vertex Solutions and had graduated from the State University of New Paltz in 1993. Her LinkedIn says that she was studying nursing.

She had started dating O’Donnell in 2011. They tied the knot in a private ceremony in New York on 9 June 2012. They also adopted a daughter together called Dakota.

However, the couple separated in 2015. As their divorce fight was ongoing, there was also a nasty fight over the custody of Dakota.

Ultimately in October 2015, Rosie won the legal case and the custody of the child was handed over to Rosie O’Donnell. The divorce was finalized in March 2016.

After the settlement, Rosie had stated:

“It’s done. We’ve settled. We’re both very happy about the outcome.”

As the news of Michelle Rounds’ death broke, Rosie was bombarded with hate mail which held her responsible for Michelle’s death.

The emails said that since Rosie did not allow Michelle to see her adopted daughter, Michelle got depressed and decided to end her life.

However, Rosie has denied all allegations and said that she used to allow Michelle to see the child often. Michelle was also into substance abuse. Rosie had said via a video that Dakota is an autistic child.

Talking about or looking out for a way to kill oneself, talking about feeling hopeless or lacking a purpose in life, feelings of being trapped or being in unbearable emotional agony, feelings of being a burden on others, drug addiction, and its increase, feelings of extreme anxiety or agitation, depression, less or more sleep, withdrawn or isolated feelings, and having extreme mood swings.

Substance abuse and untreated depression are high-risk factors for suicide whereas having a robust friend circle could help overcome any despair feelings in an individual.

There are helplines available in every country which could be used to talk over one’s personal or emotional problems and find a solution to them. These could be availed during times of feeling down or lonely.
