Lewis Capaldi addresses his Tourette Syndrome
Lewis Capaldi will quit his music career if his Tourette Syndrome gets any worse in the future.
An interview with the Forget Me singer was published in Times of London on Saturday where he said,
“If it gets to a point where I’m doing irreparable damage to myself, I’ll quit,”
”I hate hyperbole, but it is a very real possibility that I will have to pack music in,”
Mayo Clinic said,
”Tourette syndrome is a disorder that causes repetitive movements or unwanted sounds — called tics — that cannot be easily controlled,”
While it can be treated, doctors have not found a cure for this disease.
The 26-year-old singer said,
“It’s only making music that does this to me,”
“Otherwise I can be fine for months at a time. So it’s a weird situation. Right now, the trade-off is worth it.”
The Scottish singer-songwriter also let his fans know that his tics are getting very bad lately when he performs onstage.
He added,
“I’m trying to get on top of that. If I can’t, I’m f–ked,”
“It’s easier when I play guitar, but I hate playing guitar. I know, I’m a walking contradiction.”
In February, the Before You Go singer experienced a painful situation when he suffered Tourette’s pain in front of his fans while performing in Frankfurt, Germany.
A heartbreaking TikTok video showed the Grace hitmaker stopping singing Someone You Loved as the disorder started showing its impact on him.
But the supportive crowd carried on with the song for him loudly to the heartbreak song.
Fans will learn more about Capaldi’s struggles in his documentary
Capaldi was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome in 2022. During an Instagram Live in September, the singer revealed that he first noticed his tics in 2018.
He spoke at the time,
“The worst thing about it is when I’m excited I get it, when I’m stressed I get it, when I’m happy I get it,”
“It happens all the time.”
The singer also informed his followers that he received Botox on his shoulder to minimize the tics and said,
“Some days it’s more painful than others, and some days it’s less painful.
“It looks a lot worse than it is. Sometimes it’s quite uncomfortable … but it comes and goes.”
Lewis’s Netflix documentary named How I’m feeling now premieres on Wednesday. It shows many aspects of the singer’s personal and professional struggles.
He told in the interview with Times,
“I never knew I was so deep and emotionally intelligent,”
”It is a sad watch. I didn’t expect my life to be so sad.”
