Liam Payne on Harry Styles’ New Solo Music with Shady Reaction: ‘It’s Not Something I’d Listen To’

Liam Payne on Harry Style’s Solo Album

Harry Styles has started his Solo Career with his new self-titled album ‘ Sign of Times’ which is actually a throwback to classic rock jams. He has been gaining lots of love for it and also breaking lots of records.

While the general response to Harry Styles’ new, rock-tinged music has been overwhelmingly positive, the “Sign of the Times” singer does have at least one critic who is his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne.

Speaking with Music Choice for a video interview which got published on Thursday, 18 May, Payne, 23, gave an explanation of why he isn’t particularly fond of Styles’ single “Sign of the Times,” from his recently released self-titled debut album.

“Harry’s song I heard, and I’ll be honest with you, it’s not my sort of music. It’s not something I’d listen to, but I think he did a great job of doing what he wanted to do. That’s the way I’d put it best, I think.”

Similarly, Liam Payne told Music Choice that Styles, 23, himself would most likely be turned off by his solo endeavors as well. He said:

“And I think the funny thing is, [Harry] would say the same thing about me because he doesn’t really listen to hip-hop music, where it’s like my song’s more [like Tyga’s] ‘Rack City. And his song is more of a different era to something I’d listen to, I guess.”

It seems the singers from One Direction have gone off in different directions and are not in tune with each other. Recently, Migos announced their collaboration with Payne, whose post-1D project has a more hip-hop vibe.

Similarly, Payne had supported Styles after he released his debut single in April, writing,

“Proud of you H. Glad you’re getting to do your own thing ????.”

Styles’ debut album was released on May 12, whereas Payne’s new music is yet to come. During his chat with Music Choice, Payne also spoke about fellow 1D alum Niall Horan’s rising solo career.

“I heard the rest of the boys’ debut songs. Obviously, Niall had ‘Slow Hands’ out and he had ‘This Town,’ which is great. And Niall’s gone down the singer-songwriter route, which is really cool.”
