How did Lisa Marie Presley die?
Lisa Marie Presley died of complications from small bowel obstruction, as confirmed by Page Six.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner released reports where her official cause of death was reported as a small bowel obstruction.
The Post obtained an autopsy on Thursday which shows “therapeutic” levels of oxycodone and a second opioid Buprenorphine in her system.
Also, examiners found traces of the antipsychotic drug Quetiapine.
The report, however, noted that the drugs did not cause her death and there was “no evidence of injury or foul play.”
The bowel obstruction reportedly happened by adhesions that grew after bariatric surgery which is a weight loss procedure.
The report noted that her manner of death was natural.
Lisa Marie, the only child of Elvis Presley, died on January 12 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Paramedics performed CPR on the singer at her Calabasas, California mansion before getting a pulse. Then they transported her to the West Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Los Angeles.
After that, Presley was put on life support and placed in a medically-induced coma.
While she was in critical condition, she reportedly coded multiple times.
TMZ noted that Presley had been suffering from stomach issues the week of her death.
She also appeared on a red carpet event that evening which she looked unsteady and weak.
Apart from that, no one could guess that the singer had any other major health struggles.
Presley’s past struggles with drug addiction
In 2019, Lisa Marie admitted for the first time that she did drugs.
In the foreword of Harry Nelson’s book The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain, she mentioned that she became addicted to opioids and painkillers after welcoming her twin daughters, Harper and Finley, in 2008.
By 2013, her drug addiction got worse and she had to enter rehab five times.
Many thought that Lisa Marie had gotten sober in recent years but she deeply struggled with her son Benjamin Keough’s death who died by suicide.
The grieving mother paid tribute to her son in October 2020, writing, “My heart and soul went with you. The depth of the pain is suffocating and bottomless without you every moment of every day.”
She concluded,
“I will never be the same. Please wait for me my love, and hold my hand while I stay to continue to protect and raise your little sisters and to be here for Riley. I know you would want that.”
