Louis and Maries’s baby will be the third great-grandchild of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly
The exciting pregnancy news comes after the couple revealed their family-planning intentions early this year. After celebrating their relationship’s ten-year anniversary in March, they acknowledged that they are now considering the next phase of their marriage.
During an interview with a French magazine in April, the couple admitted they both wanted a child, but while Louis wanted to start right away, Marie wanted to wait so she could focus on her career.
Louis is the president of the Monaco Sports Federation while Marie heads up Société des Bains de Mer’s Marketing Events and Protocol department.
The couple also acknowledged that they have opposing views on the number of children they would like. Marie stated that she would like to stop having children after two, whereas Louis would like to have four.
“It’s true that Louis has been telling me about his desire to be a dad for several years. I’m not totally ready yet. I would like to wait a bit longer, but maybe next year?”
A brief on Louis and Marie’s romance
Louis and Marie, both 29, had been together since 2011 when they met in a Cannes nightclub and discovered they were classmates at a nearby business college. It was “love at first sight” for both of them.
The college sweetheart then tied the knot in a civil ceremony in July 2019. They married the next day in a religious ceremony at the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate in the principality.
Louis choose the same venue for his wedding where Louis’ grandparents, Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier II, married in 1956.
When he was asked about the wedding venue, he said,
“I was really attached to my grandfather. And I wanted him to be here with me. At some point, he will be with me during the wedding ceremony at the cathedral,”
“That’s why we chose it, and Marie supported me in this decision, even though the place is big and there’s a protocol, but that’s the only way for my grandfather to be with us.”
