RIP Anthony Ciccone! Madonna’s older brother dies at 66
Anthony Ciccone, the eldest sibling of Madonna, passed away on Friday evening, February 24. He was just 66.
His death was confirmed by their brother-in-law, Joe Henry on Saturday, February 25. Joe is married to their younger sister Melanie Ciccone. He wrote a heartfelt statement on Instagram describing Anthony as a “complex character”.
The statement reads,
“My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, exited this earthly plane last evening. I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone. As brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here,”
He continued,
“Anthony was a complex character; and god knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can. But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on.”
“But trouble fades; and family remains— with hands reached across the table. Farewell, then, brother Anthony. I want to think the god your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has her there, waiting to receive you. At least for today, no one shall dissuade me from this vision.”

Anthony was one of Madonna’s seven siblings. He was born to the oldest child of Madonna Louise Ciccone and Silvio Ciccone on May 3, 1956, in Rochester, Michigan.
However, Madonna hasn’t yet commented on her brother’s death.
How was Anthony Ciccone’s relationship with his family?
An insider close to the family shared that Anthony had a complicated relationship with his family members because of his struggles with alcohol.
“They were all there for him and despite being estranged, Madonna supported him in every way she could when he was willing to take the support. Family members including Madonna visited him while in his rehab facility as he declined these past few months.”
Anthony had long struggled with alcoholism and was reportedly homeless in 2011. He said in an interview that he was living under a bridge in Michigan. Also, he spoke out against Madonna and the rest of their family, accusing them of not caring about him.
“I’m a zero in their eyes — a non-person. I’m an embarrassment. If I froze to death, my family probably wouldn’t know or care about it for six months. My father would be very happy if I died of hypothermia, then he wouldn’t have to worry about it any more. He’s old school, he grew up in the depression,”
He also went on to claim that he and the “Vogue” singer, 64, “never loved each other.”
However, Madonna’s other brother Christopher later confirmed that Anthony was “back home” and “recovering” in a treatment center.
