- The rare shape references lyrics from her 2015 song, “Good For You.”
Benny Blanco chose Selena Gomez’s ring in a cute way
Selena Gomez said Good For You and Benny Blanco understood it!
Benny Blanco on June 29 proposed to his girlfriend after one year of dating brandishing a jaw-dropping sparkler with a special significance ring.
Then, in a post on Instagram Wednesday night with “forever begins now…,” the visibly giddy 32-year-old founder of Rare Beauty flaunted her marquise diamond engagement ring for everyone to see up close.
At that moment, Gomez’s celebrity friends were busy commenting on her post, including BFF Taylor Swift, who volunteered to be the flower girl at their wedding.
The 36-year-old who created the perfect choice ended up with a rare center stone, which apparently was a reference to a lyric from her 2015 hit song “Good For You.”
“I’m on my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond,” Gomez sings in the sultry song, quipping in the next line, “Could even make that Tiffany jealous.”
Fans really called the reference, one tweeting: “stop did he give her a marquise diamond as an ode to their song?? oh benny the standard you’re setting is too high.” Another added, “Selena’s ring is a stunning sweet gesture.”
A third said, “He is so cute for this 🧿” while another mused, “They don’t write prophecies this good.”
A little history of Blanco’s engagement ring
The shape of the center stone, an elongated oval that tapers into sharp points on both ends, has a romantic and storied history. It actually goes back to King Luis XV, who ordered a stone made in the shape of the lips of his mistress, Marquise de Pompadour.
“Selena Gomez’s engagement ring is fitting for a talent as rare as hers given less than 5% of diamonds are marquise,” Jared Jewelers VP of Merchandising Ann Grimmett says.
“The shape represents that what’s old is new again, with a history dating back to the 18th century, but also represents the trend to elongated fancies that we have seen growing rapidly over the past few years.”
Besides, according to Diamond Pro chief Mike Fried, the size indeed contributes to the mystique surrounding the stone.
“It is extremely different in that it is a very high-quality marquise diamond in this carat weight, and so it carries a heavy price tag,” he tells us. “This ring, made for Selena Gomez, shows how much she understands her own style and that she’s not going to stick to what most other people would do.”
How much did Benny pay for the ring?
Both estimators say the rock probably weighs nearly 8 carats and costs about $250,000.
Scarcity, it appears, is of consideration to Gomez since she named her makeup company Rare Beauty after her studio album of the same name in 2020.
The titular single says, “I don’t have it all / I’m not claiming to / But I know that I’m special (So special), yeah / And I’ll bet there’s somebody else out there / To tell me I’m rare / To make me feel rare.”
And the feeling was so significant that Gomez even got the word tattooed on her neck. Another song from Rare is “Ring.” The actress of “Emilia Pérez” is a casting pro.

All about Benny and Selena’s engagement
Now, going back to the engagement news, Gomez herself announced the news to the world by sharing photos of her ring on Instagram last Wednesday. By now, the photo has garnered more than 22 million likes.
One picture captured a radiant Gomez sitting on a picnic blanket staring happily at her ring. In another, she and Benny Blanco cuddling up together for a sweet embrace, where he gave her a peck on the head.
Thirty-two-year-old Gomez sparked rumors of engagement in August by posting a mirror selfie where she cleverly covered her left ring finger with two hearts.
Blanco, who is 36 years old, was also present, but he was hiding in the immediate close-up.
“She’s covering her finger!! Are they….,” one fan wondered, while another more confidently concluded, “She’s def engaged 😭💍.”
The “Love You Like a Love Song” singer has been dating the music producer for over a year.
In December 2023, Gomez confirmed that she and Blanco were a couple and revealed that they had secretly dated for six months around that time.
Some fans were critical of the relationship announcement, while some também noted how the songwriter was not just a workmate but also a friend with Gomez’s ex, Justin Bieber.
However, the “Love On” songstress was fierce in defending her choice of relationship with Blanco.
Said Gomez on social media at the time: “The record producer is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and he’s still better than anyone I’ve ever been with. Facts.”
Friends and family support the relationship
Reports indicate that even close insiders of the couple have also approved of their romance.
“According to one of the insiders, friends, families, and loved ones from both sides are very supportive of and quite happy about having witnessed what they think has potential to be one amazing and lasting relationship between them,” the source told Entertainment Tonight in January.
“To Benny, Selena is just mind-bogglingly brilliant. He thinks she’s really talented, unpretentious, and very sweet and smart.”
The friendship between Gomez and Blanco has existed ever since they began collaborating and has continued until now when they are in a relationship.
The producer even appeared in her “I Can’t Get Enough” music video in 2019, costumed as a massive teddy bear.
When will Benny and Selena marry?
The date on which Gomez and Blanco will finally marry still remains a secret. However, they already talk about having a family someday.
“For me, having kids is a topic of conversation every day.” said Blanco on having kids during his “The Howard Stern Show” appearance in May.
“That’s the next step I want to be able to check off the list. I’ve got a ton of godkids, I got a ton of nephews. I love being around kids.”
Gomez reportedly spoke of the possibilities of motherhood with Vanity Fair in September. She said that she couldn’t carry her own children for health reasons but it involves surrogacy or probably adoption.
