Who is Meg White?

Meg White is an American former musician and occasional singer. White is also a photographer, film score composer, and bartender. She was the drummer of the Detroit rock duo the White Stripes.

Meg was born on December 10, 1974, in the affluent Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, the U.S. Her full name is Megan Martha White. She holds an American nationality and belongs to mixed (English and German) ethnicity.

She is the younger daughter of Walter Hackett White Jr. (father) and Catherine White (mother). She has also an older sister named Heather White. Talking about her academics background, she attended Grosse Pointe North High School. While she was still in high school, she already decided to quit the study and pursue a career as a chef.

Likewise, she worked at Memphis Smoke, a restaurant in downtown Royal Oak after completing high school.

While working in a restaurant she met for the first time musician Jack White. In 1997, they both form a band of their own called ‘the White Strips’. Prior to that, she had worked for many bands as a drummer.

The band signed with Italy Records in 1998 and released its first self-titled album in 1999. A year after, the band released its second album titled De Stijl. Following this, the band members got breakthroughs in their careers and began garnering international fame too.

Their second album eventually peaked at number 38 in Billboard’s Independent Albums chart.  On September 17, 2006, the White Stripes guest-starred on The Simpsons in an episode titled “Jazzy and the Pussycats”. However, the band disbanded in 2011.

Moreover, White has appeared on the cover of Whirlwind Heat’s single “Pink” in a Detroit Cobras music video “Cha Cha Twist” as Little Red Riding Hood. She starred in a segment of Jim Jarmusch’s 2003 film Coffee and Cigarettes alongside Jack White. She has also done some modeling for Marc Jacob’s 2006 spring line.

Throughout her career, White has won four Grammy Awards for the band “The White Stripes”. Further, she has won ‘MTV Europe Music Award’, ‘MTV Video Music Award’, and ‘Brit Award’.

In September 2007, Meg was the center of attention of the public after the controversial sex video has been leaked onto the web. Later, White Stripes ended scandals stating that the tape circulating on the internet as featuring Meg White is fake. Similarly, White suffered from acute anxiety too.
