Meghan Markle revealed she and Prince Harry have been secretly meeting with tech giants as she addressed her fears of her kids using the internet someday, in NYC on Tuesday.
The former Royal couple who has always been very vocal about struggles with mental health, said that they have been having intimate conversations with tech companies about how to protect the children from the cons of the internet.
This came closely after the Archewell Foundation set up a support network for parents who lost their kids after being bullied on social media.
The Sussexes’ main motive to appear on stage at the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit was to support World Mental Health Day by urging big tech to help kids.
The former actress said,
“Being a mom is the most important thing in my life.”
It was Harry and Meghan’s first trip to New York City since their infamous paparazzi chase in May. The lovebirds arrived at Hudson Yards with a vast number of security cars and police escorts.
After watching the grieving parents talk on stage, the duo took the stage for an effective conversation hosted by Today Show host Carson Daly.
The fifth-line-line to the throne said,
“There’s a reason why no one else is working in this space, the size and the power of these companies can make you feel scared and helpless… we all understand that,”
The Duchess, 42, said that the “burden can’t lay solely on the parents,’‘

What message did Harry and Meghan send to tech giants?
She added that while some tech giants have “created parental controls and certain guardrails … if [parents] aren’t tech savvy, you can’t navigate that comfortably, it feels pretty overwhelming. So there has to be a better solution than that … “
She asked,
“As we watch the evolution of social media and and the internet, what are those safe modifications that we need to make? People are getting hurt and children are dying, how do we fix that?”
The Duke, 39, added their own personal discussion with the tech execs,
“The pushback is, ‘Well, you don’t really understand.’ How can we understand if you’re not being transparent?”
The couple was accompanied by US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy for the important event. He said that he and his wife have decided not to let their kids use social media until after middle school.
The doctor noted that nearly three-quarters of young people are struggling with loneliness, while one in three high schools are “seriously considering taking their own life.”
Murthy added,
“That is a crisis. The true measure of a society is how well it takes care and protects its young people,”
Harry, for his part, added,
“There is nothing wrong with these kids, if any one of us in this room grew up with social media we would probably react in this way. It’s the world that we’re allowing to be created around them.”
He begged the tech platforms,
“Please stop sending these children content that you would not want your own children to see,”
