A new report has come out which revealed that what tiara Meghan Markle wore for the wedding was not her first choice.

Meghan had set her eyes on a tiara that had emeralds in it. But she later wore a different tiara which was Queen Mary’s Diamond bandeau.

A source told UK daily The Sun:

“Meghan had her heart set on this tiara with emeralds, and Prince Harry hit the roof when they were told it was impossible for her to wear it,”

It seems that there was a heated exchange between Prince Harry, 38 with the royal staff regarding the tiara which they said cannot be worn by Meghan Markle for the wedding.

He was upset over this matter and felt that his to-be bride should be allowed to have her choice of the tiara for the wedding.

He had snapped:

“What Meghan wants, Meghan gets?”

The reason for the refusal was that the origins of the emeralds used in the crown were doubtful and believed to have come from Russia.

This was a potentially problematic issue for the royals and hence Meghan was not allowed access to this tiara for the wedding even though she had liked it the most.

The source revealed:

“The provenance of the tiara could not be established. There were concerns it could have come from Russia originally.”

Queen Elizabeth II steps in

In all these goings-on, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had to step in. She called Prince Harry and said:

“Meghan cannot have whatever she wants. She gets what tiara she’s given by me.”

Queen Elizabeth reportedly questioned why Meghan is wore a veil for the wedding since it is her second wedding.

What did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry say about the wedding tiara?

Meghan had made a personal recording for a new royal wedding exhibit at Windsor Castle and she talked in it about the tiara she ultimately wore. She said:

“When it came to the tiara on the day, I was very fortunate to be able to choose this gorgeous art deco style bandeau tiara. Harry and I had gone to Buckingham Palace to meet with Her Majesty The Queen to select one of the options that were there, which was an incredibly surreal day as you can imagine. And that was the one that, I think, as we tried them on, stood out.”

Prince Harry also pitched in adding:

“[It’s] every girl’s dream to be able to try on a tiara and funnily enough, [that was] the one that suited the best. I shouldn’t have really even been there, but [it was] such an incredible loan by my grandmother. It was very sweet.”
