Melania Trump recalls meeting Donald Trump for the first time

Melania Trump sheds light on her love life in her new eponymous memoir. In the book, the former first lady of the USA admits that her now-husband was on a date with somebody else when he started flirting with her.

The book says that the former model was at a Fashion Week party in 1998 with a pal when the businessman, accompanied by an “attractive blonde woman” approached them.

According to the excerpt obtained by Variety, Melania recalled, “‘Hi. I’m Donald Trump,’ the man said when he reached my table. ‘Nice to meet you.”

Although the fashionista recognized the name, she knew nothing about the man who “put his hand out to shake mine.”

“His eyes filled with curiosity and interest, and, seizing the opportunity, he took the seat next to mine and started a conversation,” she wrote. “He asked me about my time in New York, my Slovenian home, and my world travels.”

While the encounter was brief, Melania believed that the couple shared a “moment of connection” that made “a lasting impression.”

“From the moment our conversation began, I was captivated by his charm and easygoing nature,” she wrote. “There was so much bustling activity around us, but his intent focus on our interaction made me feel like the center of his world.”

“It was a refreshing departure from the usual superficial small talk, and I found myself drawn to his magnetic energy.”

But she “initially dismissed [their] conversation as mere pleasantries” since Donald, 78, “was accompanied by a beautiful date” — until he wasn’t.

“When his companion left for a moment, he asked me for my phone number,” she wrote.

To Donald’s surprise, Melania politely declined his request. Instead, she asked him for his number, which he gladly accepted under one condition. “I’ll give you my number,’ he said, ‘if you promise to call me,’” she recalled.

Mrs. Trump added, “With a hand gesture, Donald called over his bodyguard. His big shoulders leaned in as he listened to him, before discreetly writing a note on a sleek business card. Donald took the card and handed it to me.”

One fan reacted, ‘‘Good girl. She knew what she was doing.”

Melania disagrees with her husband on many things

We do not know how long it took Melania to fulfill her promise but the pair dated on and off and tied the knot in 2005. Just a year later, they welcomed their son, Barron Trump.

Somewhere in the book, she also mentions that she does not “align with all of Donald’s decisions” and opinions.

Melania stands by women’s reproductive rights and doesn’t agree with her spouse’s stance on abortion.

She writes in the book, ‘‘ It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government.”

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?” she added. “A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.”

The then-first lady stood against the violent Jan 6. riot, writing, “The news coverage was shocking; the violence we witnessed was unequivocally unacceptable.”

“While I recognized that many individuals felt the election was mishandled and that the vice president should halt the confirmation process, we must never resort to violence.”

Melania releases on Tuesday, October 8.
