Mental Health and Depression! Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison found dead on a Scottish marina!
- Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison disappeared on 9 May 2018 and his dead body was later found in a marina.
The disappearance
Scott disappeared on Wednesday 9th May 2018. He was sighted last at 1 am at the South Queensferry’s Dakota Hotel.
He seemed to have vanished since then and there was a tweet from him which was his last one which said:
“I’m away now.”
Before he disappeared, Scott had made an extremely distressing call to one of his close friends. Drummer Grant, 33 had revealed that Scott had made a phone call to his friend and said that he was feeling low and wanted some time to be alone.
After that phone call, there was no more sign or sight of him. His family and friends got worried and started the search for him but he was nowhere to be found. They then informed the police who also began the search.
The singer’s band Frightened Rabbit posted his pictures online and requested his fans and followers to print them and pin it around in the neighborhood for people to recognize and inform if he is seen anywhere.
The dead body
The search by his close ones drew a blank. It was later that his lifeless body was retrieved when it was washed up at a Scottish marina. He was confirmed dead and the police informed his family after his corpse was recognized as being that of Scott. His family was devastated.
What his family revealed?
Scott was battling with depression for a long time. He was bravely fighting it and his family which included his bandmate and brother Grant stated that he was a great person to be around. They said that Scott, 36 was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and friend.
His family said:
“As a family, we are utterly devastated with the tragic loss of our beloved Scott. Despite his disappearance, and the recent concerns over his mental health, we had all remained positive and hopeful that he would walk back through the door, having taken some time away to compose himself.”
They also added that he like all the other artists was quite emotional and wore his heart on his sleeve. This was clearly evident in his song lyrics and also through his social media posts.
They continued:
“He was passionate, articulate and charismatic, as well as being one of the funniest and kindest people we knew. Friends and family would all agree that he had a brilliant sense of humour and was a great person to be around. In addition to his musical success, Scott was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. Despite whatever else was going on in his life he always had time for those he cared for.”
As regards his depression, the family said:
“Scott battled bravely with his own issues for many years and we are immensely proud of him for being so open with his struggles. His willingness to discuss these matters in the public domain undoubtedly raised awareness of mental health issues and gave others confidence and belief to discuss their own issues.”

Social media has been full of tributes for the departed soul and wishes and support for the family. Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos tweeted:

Biffy Clyro posted:
“So so sad. So so sorry. All our love to the Hutchison family. Rest in peace Scott.x”
Stuart Murdoch of Belle and Sebastian wrote:
“Tragic news about Scott Hutchison. The whole music community in Scotland was praying for a different outcome. Folks, if you are up against it, having dark thoughts, please tell someone, family, a friend or a doctor. There is always another way, though it might not seem like it.”
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon posted:

Thanking all, his family wrote:
“We have been overwhelmed by the love that has been conveyed, not only to Scott, but to our family. It means the world to us.”
