Who is Miles Jupp?

Miles Jupp is an English comedian as well as an actor who is active in the entertainment field since 1999. He is featured in movies including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Sherlock Holmes.

He is best known for playing Archie in the children’s television series Balamory and for winning the 2001 season of So You Think You’re Funny.

The son of a minister in the United Reformed Church, Miles Jupp was born in London, England. He was born on 8 September 1979 and named Miles Hugh Barrett Jupp. He is of Huguenot ethnicity and has British nationality.

Miles Jupp studied at Hall School in Hampstead, North London, St George’s School in Windsor, and then at Oakham School in Rutland. He studied Divinity at the University of Edinburgh.

While he was at the University he joined the improvised comedy troupe the Improvers and took part in pantomime productions with the Edinburgh University Theatre Company at Bedlam Theatre.

In 2003, he was nominated for the Perrier Award for his show Gentlemen Prefer Brogues. His career took on a successful path when he portrayed the character of Archie the Inventor in CBeebies’ Balamory. He also appeared as John Duggan, an incompetent press officer with a habit of making inappropriate comments in Series 3 and 4 of political comedy The Thick of It.

In 2010, Miles Jupp appeared as Nigel in the BBC sitcom Rev and as an undersecretary in the film Made in Dagenham. In March 2008, he performed his third solo show entitled Everyday Rage and Dinner Party Chit Chat at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden.

Miles Jupp was a team member with Goldie and team captain Phill Jupitus on the music quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks in January 2011. He appeared in a cameo role in Johnny English Reborn as an employee of MI7 in 2011. In January 2012, he won an episode of Celebrity Mastermind and has also narrated for the BBC television documentary series Building Dream Homes in 2014.

In October 2016, Miles Jupp appeared as Giles, the chairman of the residents’ committee in the sitcom from BBC Three Josh. He is also a writer who has written a book about his adventures as a cricket journalist in India: Fibber in the Heat.
