Monica Aldama being sued for alleged sexual assault cover-up
A legal dispute supposedly involves Monica Aldama, who starred in the popular Netflix docuseries “Cheer.”
Her former student and cheerleader Madi Lane sued her for allegedly covering up instances of sexual assault.
Aldama allegedly tried to cover up the sexual assault of Lane during her first semester at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, back in 2021 at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas.
On Wednesday, April 26, Michael Landers, the Director of Athletics, Elizabeth Pillans, the Title IX Coordinator, and Monica had a complaint filed against them in federal court.
In court records, Lane asserts that her then-roommate Salvatore “Salvo” Amico got on her bed, forcefully took her clothes off, and then sexually assaulted her while groping her chest and sticking his fingers inside her.
Lane claimed that she went to speak with “several team members,” including Aldama, after the incident. However, the coach, 51, allegedly interrupted her, saying,
“Let’s not make this a big deal. I want the best for you and I will help you cheer wherever you want,”
When she left the cheerleading squad a week later, she alleges Aldama told her,
“If you keep quiet, I’ll make sure you can cheer anywhere you want.”
Lane also claims that one of the “veteran” cheerleaders, Maddy Brum, said the same thing while threatening her that if she reported it, the school would cut their cheer program and everyone would despise her.
Similarly, she noted that these things had prevented her from reporting to the Title IX office and campus police about the alleged assault so far.
Monica Aldama responded to the sexual assault being covered up
The Netflix star declined to acknowledge the claim that she advised a former pupil to “keep quiet” about experiencing sexual assault.
On Friday, April 28, Monica told TMZ that she was “heartbroken by the false allegations.”
The head coach from the hit series “Cheer” argued that she had worked “year after year” to create a safe environment for her students at Navarro Cheer.
She also acknowledged that she vowed to speak up if she ever learned that any sexual misconduct had taken place there.
Navarro College also released a statement refuting “any allegations” and preparing to “vigorously defend itself in court”.
“The safety and welfare of students is always of utmost priority. Navarro College prohibits sexual harassment and sexual misconduct against all students and is deeply committed to providing an educational environment free from sex discrimination and sexual assault.”

The statement continued,
“The College has established robust policies and procedures for reporting, investigating, and responding to all allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Navarro College takes every report of sexual harassment and sexual assault seriously and acts swiftly to provide an appropriate response to protect all students.”
