She has shocked everyone with news of her pregnancy with longtime boyfriend Ben

Congratulations to actress and singer Naturi Naughton! The POWER star recently disclosed via social media that she and her boyfriend Ben are expecting their first child this coming July.

Update: Naturi delivered a healthy baby girl on 19 July 2017. She was 19 inches tall and weighed 5 lbs and 15 oz. However, she and her daughter’s daddy Ben separated in 2019.

Naturi about the Pregnancy

Look’s like this summer will turn out to be a sweet and busy one for Naturi Naughton as she is expecting her first child. Her rep confirmed to Us Weekly it was on Wednesday, March 22.

Naughton, whose due date for delivery is in July, discovered she was pregnant while shooting season 4 of her Brooklyn-based Starz original series.

The former musical girl group member told People that she is elated about the whole thing.

She said,

“I feel like being pregnant and entering this new stage has made me stronger and more excited about life in general. Everything seems so much more purposeful,”
“It’s been a little surreal, but I feel really good, healthy and strong,”

The pregnancy is a big surprise to Naughton and her longtime boyfriend Ben, but “it’s such a blessing,” she revealed.

Naturi co-workers as excited as her

Naughton’s POWER co-stars are just as excited for her as she is about her coming bundle of joy.

“They’ve been really good at keeping it on the low, but they’re also super excited,”
“Omari [Hardwick], we have kids on the show and he’s like, ‘Now you get to be experiencing motherhood in real life!’ Everyone’s been really supportive.”

she said.

Fortunately, the actress has thought a lot about raising children in the past. In 2015 she wrote an observant essay for Essence in which she thanked the “village” that raised her.

She looked back at her childhood and appreciated the quality family time she spent with her parents while growing up and the discipline they instilled in her.

Naughton closed the thoughtful essay with advice for the reader.

“Recognize that by uplifting your family, you are simultaneously uplifting your hood and laying down the groundwork for the next generation. I know it can be a harrowing task and a hefty responsibility, but please, let’s do our best!”

Tricks with Pregnancy

And as her baby bump continues to grow, Naughton has learned some tricks to hiding her belly for the show.

“I had maternity jeans they ordered for me, and I do a lot of tops that are peplum-style. I was amazed at how un-pregnant I could look.”

Natur has started eating healthier since finding out she’s expecting — with one exception.

“I love kale, I love strawberries and pineapples, but I’m not proud of this … I’ve been eating Cup Noodles. I really want salty, spicy things, and Cup Noodles has been really awesome. I haven’t had one since college!”

For now, Naughton is busy picking out colors for the baby’s nursery with her boyfriend and looking forward to the little one’s arrival.

“It’ll just be a great summer to enjoy motherhood and this journey to motherhood,” she says. “It’s a really amazing responsibility, but it’s such a blessing and that to me is worth more than anything I can imagine.”

Update: Their daughter Zuri was born in July 2019. Naturi and Ben parted their ways after 47 years of marriage.
