Suicide by NBA player Tyler Honeycutt
The Sacramento Kings draft pick Tyler Honeycutt has died of an apparent suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was a former UCLA star. His body was in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles. He was 27 when he died.
The actual incident
The Los Angeles Police Department received a call about a man with a gun who was behaving crazy and was barricaded in a property in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. The call was probably from the mother of Tyler Honeycutt.
As the police officers tried to talk to the person later identified as Tyler to dissuade him from doing anything drastic, he opened fire at the policemen. They returned the fire. This was followed by a stand-off.
The police force tweeted later:
“We can confirm that during the initial encounter the suspect fired a shot out of the residence and officers returned fire,”
Crisis negotiators and a SWAT team soon reached the spot and tried their options. But there was no response. Carefully, the police entered the property and found Tyler unresponsive. He had killed himself with his gun. The police are sure that it was not their gunshot that killed him. They clarified on their Twitter:
“It appears as if the suspect was not struck by any officer’s gunfire.
“The suspect appears to have sustained injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
Tyler’s ex-coach who was also their family friend, Bort Escoto talked about the incident on the day the NBA player took his life. Tyler had called Bort over to his house on the day he died. As Tyler was planning to go over, Tyler’s mother called Bort and said that Tyler was acting crazy.

He said:
“I planned on going to his house to talk, but his mom called me 45 minutes later saying, ‘He had a gun and was talking crazy,’
“I told her to call 911.”
Bort also revealed that of late Tyler used to call him and thank him for all he has done for him. Bort said:
“He has been acting very unusual lately, and our conversations would leave me concerned for him,”
These probably were the early signs of impending doom which were again overlooked.
Bort disclosed that Tyler was finding it difficult to adjust to the Russian atmosphere. He was playing there in the Eastern European Professional Basketball League. Bort elaborated:
“It’s hard for an L.A. kid to go to Russia, not know the language or surroundings, I just kept telling him he needed to get out and meet people.”
Meanwhile, it is learned that Tyler was to sign a new contract with either Israel or Russia on the same day.

Tyler’s mother’s grief and statements
Tyler’s mother Lisa Stazel was grief-stricken and blamed the police for the death of her son. She said:
“He planned to go and get help that day, but then he started to get so upset and I could not understand him. He really wanted to go back to the NBA, and he had an agreement to play in the summer league for Oklahoma, but they got the MRI tests and he had a knee problem. It was a huge disappointment for him. I told him that if he started to act aggressively I had to involve the police. So I called the police and they came and killed my child. They tried to tell me he shot himself. He was depressed and he assured me that he would never hurt himself because he knew it would hurt me, he promised me that”.
She continued:
“He did not shoot at them, he just shot in the air through the window, not at all in their direction, and that’s because he was in a panic and he was very scared. It was not a case of an attempt to calm the situation. The police moved 30 vehicles and put three helicopters into the air, all against one frightened child”,
She explained in detail:
“It’s a pretty big house, and after it was all over I saw blood all along the corridor, smeared on the walls, and traces of blood to the closet in his bedroom. He didn’t shoot himself. If you shoot yourself, you usually die on the spot, you do not go from room to room like that. I believe that one of the policemen shot him through one of the windows”.
“When they took his body out I begged them to let me see it, but they told me, ‘Madam, you do not want to see him like that,’”
Further, she added:
“so I do not even know what part of his body he was shot at. And he crawled to the closet in the bedroom in an attempt to defend himself, where he bled to death, and he took all the furniture in the area and put it to the door to protect himself. They tell me that it will take them up to ten months to complete the investigation. But how can I trust them that they will tell the truth”.
