Ne-Yo issues an apology for his transgender comments
Ne-Yo seeks forgiveness for the statement he made about gender identity and how transgender kids are raised.
The 43-year-old singer appeared on social media to clarify his opinions on the sensitive topic and vowed to educate himself on the issue.
The Time Of Our Lives vocalist said on the site,
”After much reflection, I’d like to express my deepest apologies to anyone that I may have hurt with my comments on parenting and gender identity,”
The musician whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith said that now that he looks back at what he said, he feels how people would have felt by the remarks.
He said,
”I’ve always been an advocate for love and inclusivity in the LGBTQI+ community, so I understand how my comments could’ve been interpreted as insensitive and offensive,”
The Miss Independent hitmaker continued,
”Gender identity is nuanced and I can honestly admit that I plan to better educate myself on the topic, so I can approach future conversations with more empathy.”
”At the end of the day, I lead with love and support everyone’s freedom of expression and pursuit of happiness.”
The So Sick hitmaker appeared on VladTV alongside Gloria Velez where he condemned parents who support their kids as trans, especially at a young age.
He said he doesn’t understand why parents allow their children to make such decisions at that age.
Ne-Yo said in the interview,
“I feel like the parents have almost forgotten what the role of a parent is,”
“If your little boy comes up to you and says, ‘Daddy I wanna be a girl,’ you just let him rock with that?”
Ne-Yo added,
“Where did he get that? If you let this 5-year-old little boy eat candy all day, he’s gonna do that. Like, when did it become a good idea to let a 5-year-old, a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old make a life-changing decision?”
“When did that happen? Like, I don’t understand that.”

”It becomes my business when you try to make me play the game with you. I’m not gonna call you a goldfish; but if you wanna be a goldfish, you go be a goldfish.”
