Know how the new Spanish trans law is exploited by male Spanish soldiers to state that they are lesbians inside!
This is an example how a law made wrongly could be misused for some benefits. Spanish newspaper El Español reports that the new trans law that socialist parliamentarians of Spain passed in early 2023 is being used by male Spanish soldiers to call themselves women and claim female benefits in the army.
What is the new trans law?
The current government in Spain passed a bill in June 2022 that allows people above 16 years to freely change their gender. Accordingly, these trans gender people can self-identify and get their gender changed on their birth certificates. For those between 12 to 16 years, there are some restrictions laid down unlike for those above 16 years.
The new national trans law came into being on 2 March 2023. As per this law, a person can change his or her gender identity in the civil register. The person no more needs to undergo a two-year hormonal therapy or obtain a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria. These requirements were there in the previous legislation. There was a lot of opposition to this law from conservatives and feminists. But the latter failed to stop the law from coming into force.
Misuse of law by male Spanish soldiers
Women serving the Spanish military are entitled to better benefits in order to increase their recruitment in the army. They get higher salaries with better pensions and better accommodations. This gender inequality did not go well with some male Spanish soldiers. In order to overcome the inequality in pay and housing, they have started declaring themselves as women. They are trying to exploit the new law for their benefit. They now do some paperwork and get their gender changed on their national ID and passport. Thus, they can reap the benefits of this changed gender.
Until now, 41 men in Ceuta, Spain have used this law and changed their gender. These men or rather ‘new women’ are mostly in the security, police, and military. Only four of these have changed their names accordingly. But none of them have changed their marital status. They state that they are lesbians inside.

Story of Roberto Perdigones
Roberto Perdigones, 35 is one such men who is now a woman in the official documents. He is a sergeant in the army posted in Ceuta. Roberto sports a beard, has male genitalia, has a biological son, and is strongly attracted to women. He told El Español:
“Outside I feel like a straight man, but inside I’m a lesbian.”
He added that the new law has prompted many men to claim themselves to be women. Roberto revealed that he now has better sleeping quarters and better pay. He also has his own private bathroom. Since he is a woman inside, he cannot use men’s bathroom.
And it would be not right to use women’s bathroom either. Hence, he now has his own bathroom all to himself! He said:
“Since I changed my gender, I was told that my pension increased because women get more to compensate for the inequality,”
“I also get 15 percent more salary than my mother.”
“I even have a private room in the barracks, all to myself, with my own bathroom,”
He continued:
“That’s because as a woman I can’t be with men and I didn’t think it was appropriate to be with biological women out of respect for them.”
Additionally, he has no hair or jewelry restrictions that men in the military have. If he applies for security or police post, he can fare better since he has now to meet requirements of only the women-specific physical tests that are obviously less demanding. Should he divorce his wife, he has better chance to win the custody battle over his son.
This law is being exploited as a means to rebel against the left-wing policies. An unidentified military man said:
“I have already seen several cases among my colleagues and it will increase because there are quite a lot of people who have filed an application and are in the process,”
“So from time to time the number will be much higher.”
