Nicole Kidman has recently opened up about her experience filming the intense sex scenes in her upcoming film Babygirl.
In a candid interview with The Sun, the Academy Award-winning actress, 57, revealed that the intensity of these scenes led her to pause filming due to exhaustion from “faking orgasms.”
She further said the role was emotionally demanding and left her feeling “ragged” at times.
In Babygirl, directed by Halina Reijn, Kidman portrays Romy, a high-powered CEO who gets into an affair with a much younger intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson.
The film is all about power dynamics, gender relations, and the consequences of forbidden love.
Overall, the film is set to be released in U.S. cinemas on December 25, 2024.
The actress has already earned praise for her role, receiving Best Actress honors at the Venice Film Festival following the film’s premiere.
What challenges did Nicole Kidman face while filming intimate scenes?
During a promotional interview, Kidman opened up about the difficulties she faced while shooting the film’s intimate scenes.
She revealed that she was “so present all the time” during the sex scenes that it was “almost burnout” for her. Similarly, Nicole noted that she often felt pushed to a point where she was just “over it.”
The “Moulin Rouge” star described the experience as overwhelming, stating that there was “an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration” between her and her co-stars Banderas and Dickinson.
At times, she felt compelled to assert boundaries with her co-stars, expressing sentiments like “Don’t come near me” and “I hate doing this” during particularly intense filming sessions.”
Kidman humorously noted that there were instances when she felt so drained that she declared, “I don’t want to orgasm anymore,” reflecting the emotional weight of performing such scenes repeatedly.
She further added,
“It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout,”
Despite all physical and emotional struggle, Nicole said she was drawn to the film because it allowed her to explore new territory in her acting career.
The Oscar winner said she was originally attracted to the sexually charged project because it was “an area [she’d] never been” before.
She explained,
“I’ve always been on a quest as an actor, I’m always going, where have I not been? And what can I explore as a human being? And this was an area I’d never been.”
