Pop singer Dua Lipa apologizes for her mistake from 2014. She regrets ‘going there’ and says that “a different word could’ve been record altogether to avoid offence and confusion”
- Dua Lipa had among the greatest time of her life in 2017 with all her hit songs but the beginning of her 2018 doesn’t seem as smooth as the last one.
- Although only a few days of 2018 have passed, she faced a big controversy due to her mistake which was done 4 years back.
One word holds a bigger meaning than you can imagine
Everyone knows Dua Lipa as a cover artist before and used to cover lots of songs. The New Rules singer had covered Mila J’s song Smoke, Drink, Break-up when she was 18. Not that song was bad but the use of the N-word in the song angered her fans and listeners.
For quite some time she was being criticized for the racism caused by the song which went like this:
“So I roll me swisha, pour me some liquor before we start to bicker and calling each other out our names like plenty bitches and n—–.”
After getting an unbelievable amount of disgrace, the singer went on Twitter to apologize on January 4.
“In relation to my 2014 cover, I never meant to offend or upset anyone. I didn’t say the full word but I can admit I shouldn’t have gone there at all and that a different word could’ve been recorded altogether to avoid offense and confusion. I wasn’t thinking it through at that time.”

The listeners were divided into groups after listening to the song. Some blamed the original author and singer for the mistake and supported Dua while some believed that Dua should have been considerate herself some were even confused about bringing up something from a long time back when she was just 18 years.
This tweet was followed by another tweet of hers tweeting:
I always stand up for social justice and I am very sorry to anyone that I have offended x

Speak your mind and be honest with your songs
In an interview with a Fashion magazine, she explained about her song is meant for empowerment. Portraying confidence and making herself feel better is what her music does:
“Something I always wanted was a way to portray confidence in my music—trying to make myself feel better in certain situations.”
As a human, she once in a while lacks in her performances as well. She feels bad about giving bad performances.
“It really gets me down when I’m not able to go out and give a good show. I feel helpless, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
The outcome of these good songs, according to Dua, is being honest with herself and letting it go.
“I realized that the only person who was going to get a real honest song out of me was me. So I thought: ‘Fuck it. I’m going to speak my mind. I’m just going to do it for the sake of the music and the sake of me trying to get the best out of myself.'”
