Passersby also tried their level best to procure the jewelry for the couple but their efforts were fruitless. The NY police were called and they opened the grate cover and searched with torches but it did not yield any results. The couple left without leaving their names. After the ring was found by the NYPD, they wanted to contact the couple but did not have their names or contact details. They shared the clip shared on their Twitter which went viral and had more than 20k retweets.

The department put up the CCTV footage on their Twitter with the appeal to help them find the couple. They wrote:
“WANTED for dropping his fiancée’s ring in @TimesSquareNYC! She said Yes – but he was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate. Our @NYPDSpecialops officers rescued it & would like to return it to the happy couple. Help us find them?”

The couple is found
Their efforts paid and the couple was found. It was later found that the couple was John Drennan and Daniella Anthony and they were from Peterborough in the UK. They had gone to New York to celebrate their 10-years of togetherness. And it was there that John proposed to her. He had been carrying the ring with him for two days before the proposal. Daniella realized that the ring was loose and it fell and bounced twice before disappearing into the grate at Times Square.
Not finding the ring, the couple had left for the UK and decided to buy a new one. Daniella was inconsolable. Just moments after they touched down at the airport, a friend of theirs alerted them of the social media campaign from the NYPD. He asked them whether it was they in the picture. The police also had put up the picture of the ring so that the person to whom it belongs can recognize it.
They wrote:
“Here’s a photo of the ring our officers recovered (and cleaned!) Call 1-800-577-TIPS or DM
@NYPDTips if you know the happy couple so we can return it to them!”

The couple’s happiness knew no bounds and they said:
“We don’t use Twitter – we had absolutely no idea this was going on. But we are so happy.”
“We are so thankful to everyone – especially the New York Police Department and everyone who shared our story,”
The couple is in touch with NYPD to get the ring safely back to their home. The couple particularly remembers one family who stayed on for moral support and their little girl had given Daniella the hug at that time which meant a lot to them.
