The Detroit Lions quarterback, 30, shared the news exclusively with PEOPLE on February 6, 2025, at the NFL Honors red carpet in New Orleans.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model, 31, debuted her pregnancy, showing off her baby bump in a fitted brown dress and cradling her stomach.

The NFL star stood beside her and expressed his excitement about “becoming a dad” during his off-season, while Harper said they look forward to enjoying their time together.

The soon-to-be-mom said,

“We’re just excited to enjoy this special time together and just soak up every second,”

Goff shared with People that he has “always dreamt” of being a father and is excited about this new phase in his life. He said,

“I know it ‘ll add a new perspective to life, and it’ll be great.”

The athlete further added that he believes Harper will be the “best mom,” adding,

“I can’t wait to watch her be a mom.”

Harper expressed similar thoughts, stating,

“I know he’s going to be the best, and it’s just gonna be exciting to do this together as a team.”

Furthermore, the couple revealed they are expecting a baby girl, who is due in early summer.

The pregnancy news comes just ahead of the Super Bowl. Jared expressed his sentiments about the Super Bowl LIX matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs on February 9, 2025.

He expressed his excitement for being “around all great players,” but also his sadness that the Detroit Lions were no longer in the competition. The soon-to-be-dad said,

“I wish we were still playing, but this is nice to be here,”

Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions’ season ended with a 45-31 defeat against the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs on January 17.

Christen Harper and Jared Goff started dating in 2019 after meeting on the dating app, Raya.

At the time, the athlete was still playing for the Los Angeles Rams and they both lived in California.

During a Sports Illustrated interview in September 2022, Christen recounted meeting her husband, saying,

“I was truly not looking for anything at the time, I had just gotten out of a long relationship and I was trying to stay single for a year. Then I met him and the rest is history, baby.”

The now-expectant couple then made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2019 ESPYs.

In June 2022, Goff proposed to Harper while on vacation in Los Cabos, Mexico, and they announced their engagement via Instagram.

Goff captioned his Instagram post,

“I’m the luckiest guy in the world because I get to spend forever with you. I love you @christenharper,”

Weeks later, Harper also shared photos from the trip on her Instagram, captioning,

“Still on cloud 9 from the best weekend of her life.”
