Princess Lilibet inherited the famous red hair from her dad Prince Harry.
The daughter of the prince and Meghan Markle was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara on 4 June 2021.
Her name is a tribute to her paternal great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and paternal grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales.

Prince Harry reveals his daughter got his red hair

There are six photos featured in the holiday card for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for 2024 but one photo created a lot of buzz.

This one nestled amid images from their travels to Nigeria and Colombia this year, is the top middle photo of the card’s six most chosen snaps. This particular one is rare since it features photos of the couple’s kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, run toward Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, who are standing with open arms alongside the family pets Guy, Pula, and Momma Mia.

The pictures on the card, published on Monday, December 16, are accompanied by a message, “On behalf of the office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex together with Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation.”

”We wish you a really happy holiday season and a very joyful new year.”

This is the first time Archie and Lilibet have been seen since their very short appearances in Harry and Meghan, the six-part documentary series that premiered on Netflix in December 2022.

Archie and Lilibet are seen from the rear, showcasing, in particular, their red hair, which Prince Harry discussed just recently. On Sept. 30, Prince Harry jetted off to London to attend the WellChild Awards and told Hello! chief content officer Sophie Vokes-Dudgeon that both “Archie and Lili have inherited that thick hair from their mother.”

Vokes-Dudgeon wrote that Harry also “marveled at how it wouldn’t be long until Lili could sit on hers.”

Harry credits the Spencer genes for his red hair

Not the first WellChild Awards event where Harry professed the red hair of Archie and Lili, with the color being in Harry’s bloodline. He claimed to be the son of Harry during an interview with The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert when asked about red hair in general.

Said the Duke of Sussex: “The Spencer gene is very, very strong.”

“I mean I actually really did think at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan] that, should this go the distance and we end up having children, there’s no way the ginger gene would be holding up against my wife’s genes–but I was wrong!”

“Go redheads,” Harry cheekily added.

All three of Diana’s siblings—Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Lady Jane Fellowes, and Earl Charles Spencer—also sport red hair, just like Harry.

The first hint of Lilibet’s flaming red hair was in the Sussex family holiday card in 2021 after Lilibet was born that June almost six months before.

It was the first photo of Harry and Meghan’s little daughter. The new family of four shared a message that said “This year, in 2021, we brought our daughter, Lilibet, into the world. Archie made us a ‘Mama’ and a ‘Papa,’ and Lili made us a family.”

The snapshot from 2021 would be taken by Alexi Lubomirski, who shot Harry and Meghan’s pictures on their official engagement four years prior in 2017.

Harry and Meghan then again gave an official picture of Lilibet to the world in June 2022 on her first birthday celebrating her having the distinct red tresses they have always remained aligned with.

Meghan and Harry keep their kids out of the spotlight

Harry and Meghan want to keep both Archie’s and Lilibet’s lives private. Yet they do sometimes say something about their daughter’s life as doting parents in such propositions as when announcing her birth on June 4, 2021: “It is more than we could have imagined,” the couple said after announcing her arrival.

Prince Harry, only weeks after the birth of Lili, told guests at an intimate garden party for the WellChild Awards that his daughter was “really calm and appears to be just content to hang out as Archie goes cr*** all over the place.”

During an episode of her Archetypes podcast, Meghan mentioned, “I want my Lili to want to be educated and want to be smart and to pride herself on those things.” This past May, during a visit to Nigeria with Harry, Meghan had Lilibet on her mind, noting that “singing and dancing” was Lili’s “favorite class,” probably because of “all the jumping around.”
