Prince Philip Leaves London Hospital After A Two Night Stay For A Precaution Of Suspected Infection
- Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh has been discharged from the hospital after a two-night stay with an infection.
- In this session, we will learn about his stay in the hospital and the reason behind it.
The Discharge
Prince Philip has checked out of the hospital after a two-night stay. According to The Telegraph, Philip left King Edward VII Hospital in London through a back entrance and is currently resting at home now.
As previously reported, Prince Philip, who suffered from a bladder infection in the past, was taken care of for two nights as a precautionary measure.
“Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot,”
Kensington Palace confirmed in a statement on Wednesday, June 22, indicating that the Queen was being kept informed about his condition.
The Reason for Admission to the Hospital
His doctor advised him to go to the hospital from Windsor to London by car as a precaution, which he did on Tuesday evening. He got out of bed today and reportedly is in good spirits
Prince Charles accompanied the Queen in place of his father to the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said,
“The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition. Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot. The Prince of Wales will accompany The Queen to the State Opening. Her Majesty is being kept informed and will attend Royal Ascot as planned this afternoon.”
Not the First Time to Miss?
However, this is not the first time that Prince Philip has missed the ceremony. The Duke of Edinburgh has missed the State Opening of Parliament 11 times since 1956. His son, Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales has accompanied the Queen twice, in 1994 and 1996.
Other Events of Missing
In June 2013, the Duke underwent a planned exploratory operation on his abdomen.
He also suffered a serious health scare over Christmas 2011, which he spent in the hospital for treatment for a blocked coronary artery. There, he underwent a “minimally invasive procedure’’ of coronary stenting to unblock it. It was a success and discharged four days later.
During the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, he contracted a bladder infection. He spent 5 days in the hospital ward and missed the Jubilee festivities’ final part.
