Princess Catherine Makes a Rare Comment on Cancer at Christmas Carol Service!
- Princess Catherine made a rare comment about her cancer journey during her fourth annual carol service on Dec. 6.
- Also joining Middleton for this year’s event was her husband Prince William and their three children: George, Charlotte, and Louis.
- The event serves as the first outing for the princess after returning to her royal duties earlier this week. It was after she took a 9-month long break for cancer treatment.
Princess Catherine briefly talks about her cancer
Princess Catherine confessed that she was not ready for the year that she had after she found out about her diagnosis. This is the first time the Princess of Wales made the first statement on cancerous journeys in recent times.
The princess opened up about her experience while speaking to pop star Paloma Faith at the fourth annual carol service held on December 6 at Westminster Abbey.
“It’s just been the year that I didn’t know was going to be this year,” said the royal in a video from the interaction released on X by Channel 5 News UK.
“Unplanned,” chimed Faith.
“Unplanned, exactly,” Middleton echoed back. “But I think lots of people this year have had such challenging times.”
Dressed in a red coat and black velvet bow for the occasion, the princess had her husband, Prince William, and the honor of being with their three children: George, Charlotte, and Louis.
As reported earlier today, this year’s service, entitled “Royal Carols: Together at Christmas,” has been filmed and will be broadcast on Christmas Eve.
Kensignton Palace spoke about the service
“This year’s service is a time to reflect on love and empathy, and the fact we’re all really in need of one another, especially at the toughest junctures in our lives,” said Kensington Palace in last month’s statement.
“The service will shine a light on individuals from all over the UK who have shown love, kindness, and empathy in others in their communities, whether on a personal level with friends and family, through their work, or as they selflessly give up their time through volunteering.”
With the service for the first time, the princess was seen in public after she came back to royal engagements early this week to give the welcome to the Emir of Qatar, who has come to the UK.
The royal has not been seen regularly since March when she announced that she had cancer.

What did Catherine wear at the Carol service?
No matter how hard life has been lately, the princess never fails to make fashion statements. During the service, the princess arrived at Westminster Abbey wearing a double-breasted red Alexander McQueen coat. She accentuated her coat with a black velvet bow.
She paired her festive look with black suede Ralph Lauren boots and a plaid Emilia Wickstead midi skirt.
The future queen accessorized her lovely look with Mulberry pearl earrings and a Halcyon Days bangle. And how could we forget her signature bouncy brunette blowout looking as glossy as ever?
Catherine’s first big royal engagement since cancer treatment
Just a few days ago, Catherine wowed in a burgundy coat dress for a special diplomatic event.
It was exciting to see her resume royal duties after a long absence due to fighting cancer, dressed from head to toe in that hallmark deep red color and special jewels on Tuesday.
Prince William, also 42, joined her at a welcome event for the Emir of Qatar, who spends the next two days in the U.K.
And indeed, the two matched; even the prince picked a dark red tie to mirror that of the country’s flag. The royal sported an impeccably tailored Alexander McQueen coatdress with a Sahar Millinery drop beret hat, Cornelia James gloves, and Gianvito Rossi knee-high leather boots.
Middleton is a fan of the burgundy Chanel top-handle bag for the Ceremonial Welcome at Horse Guards Parade.
Besides her very personal choice of color, the princess also wore the Four Row Japanese Pearl Choker. It boasts a rich and lengthy history in the royal family since Queen Elizabeth II owned it.
Princess Diana once owned these royal pieces
According to The Court Jeweller, the necklace is a gift from the government of Japan. It possibly came during the 1980s when she made a state visit to that country.
The late Princess Diana, too, wore this significant piece during her royal assignments in the 1990s.
Most recently, Middleton wore this sentimental piece on past royal affairs, including those of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in 2021 and Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
For the ceremony this morning, Middleton coupled the token of the past with her cherished Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings that also came from the queen.
Kate has worn the drop earrings numerous times before and is definitely one of her favorite kinds of jewelry.
It was at that ceremony that the couple welcomed His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his first of three wives, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani.
