In an interview with The Guardian, the Oscar-winning actor he recounted how he was mistakenly identified as a robbery suspect by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The police approached him after a liquor store robbery, as the suspect had been described as someone of Latin descent.

Malek, who is of Egyptian descent, was forcefully placed on the hood of a police car, with officers claiming, “You fit the description.”

He vividly remembered the heat from the car’s engine, stating,

“I remember how hot that engine was — they must have been racing over there and it was almost burning my hands,”

Fortunately, a friend who was with him intervened by informing the officers that he was Egyptian, not Latin.
