Ray Stevenson is no longer alive among us. The actor, known for his role as Volstagg in Marvel’s Thor franchise, passed away.
On Monday, May 22, he took his last breath at the Rizzoli hospital in Ischia. He was just 58. The heartbreaking news comes four days before his birthday. On May 25, he would have been 59.
His death was confirmed by his foundation, The Peter Mayhew Foundation, via Twitter,
“We are sad to hear of the passing of Ray Stevenson. You may recognize Ray as Baylon Skoll from the upcoming Ahsoka show on Disney+. You may also remember his work as the voice of mandalorian super commando Gar Saxon in The Clone Wars. Our sincerest condolences to his family.”

However, the cause of his death hasn’t yet been revealed.
According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, he had been hospitalized with a sudden illness on the island of Ischia.
He had been on the island since a few days to shoot the film, Cassino in Ischia, directed by Frank Ciota.
Tributes pour in on the passing of beloved actor Ray Stevenson
As soon as Stevenson’s death was confirmed many took to social media platforms to express their grief on his passing.
Fellow actor James Purefoy tweeted,
“So sad to hear the news that Ray Stevenson, our Pullo in Rome, has passed away. A brilliant, gutsy, larger-than-life actor who filled every part he played right up to the brim. My thoughts are with his family, his lovely wife Betta and their beautiful kids. What a loss.”
Similarly, film director James Gun paid tribute to the death of the actor via Twitter,
“Damn. So sorry to hear about the passing, far too young, of Ray Stevenson. I only knew him a little from shooting post-credits of Thor 2 & a couple interactions at events, but we had some good laughs & he was a joy to work with. His friends & family are in my heart today.”
While global box office hit RRR director SS Rajamouli added,
“Just can’t believe this news. Ray brought in so much energy and vibrancy with him to the sets. It was infectious. Working with him was pure joy. My prayers are with his family. May his soul rest in peace.”

Further, co-star Matthew Lewis, who appeared alongside Stevenson as a child in the television film Some Kind of Life, wrote,
“This is so sad. Ray played my dad in the first thing I ever did on TV. Almost 30 years ago. A proper actor with a fascinating career and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better first experience in this ridiculous industry.”
