The initial few months of dating

Dating goes through different phases and for a better future life, it is vital that one should check whether the new partner is compatible with you or not. This would help to enhance the quality the relationship and improve its duration.

Carleigh feels that the first few months of courtship are the months when the couple comes to know each other. They learn what their partner is like and how the new date reacts to certain circumstances of life.

During this honeymoon phase of dating, there is also a need for some frank and direct talk. The answers should be honest and this will help in the betterment of the new relationship.

Carleigh states that either partner should do five things to help this relationship. On 31st March 2025, she shared these points on her Instagram handle.

Five things to do in first 3 months of a relationship

Intentional conversation

The partners should try to converse with each other as much as possible. New topics should be deliberately opened and discussed to know each other better. Carleigh explains:

Make sure you are asking questions about their values, long-term goals, etc, and don’t forget to communicate your own,”

Learn the opposite’s reactions to situations

One partner should know about how the other partner handles stress, differences, disagreements, conflicts, disappointments, failures etc. Indifference or overreaction both are bad.

Carleigh elaborates:

Truth: You will learn more about them from a bad day than a great date. I’m not saying you should intentionally cause conflict, but pay attention when those things do happen,”

Watch in different states of mind or situations

One partner should be able to see the other partner in different situations and in different mind frames. According to her:

The version of someone you see on a vibey date isn’t necessarily the same as who they are just sitting on the couch on a Sunday. Make sure you’re going on different types of dates to see a fuller picture,”

You may need to voice your concerns if the other partner oversteps the limit. At the same time, you should stay within your own boundaries with the other partner. Carleigh says:

Whether it’s making time for yourself, not saying yes to every plan, or taking things slowly, boundaries build confidence and successful relationships,”

Do not ignore your own feelings

It is good to  understand how your partner feels with you. Try to make your partner comfortable. However, do not forget to also step back a bit and see how you feel with your partner. Carleigh asserts:

Are you getting so caught up in wondering how they feel and what you want that you haven’t even stopped to think about whether you can picture yourself with them long term?”
