Iranian state media confirmed the news that Haji died on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in Dezhgah, a village in the country’s southern province of Fars. Haji was considered the world’s dirtiest man after he refused to bathe himself for more than six decades.

According to the report, he is scared of water. He hasn’t married throughout his life and neither has any children.

Why did Amou Haji refuse to take a bath over decades?

Amou’s belief comes true that if he washes his body he would get sick. According to the locals, Haji suffered “emotional setbacks in his youth,” so he refused to take baths.

According to Republic News Agency (IRNA), Haji’s skin was covered in “soot and pus,” as a result of years of not bathing. Haji survived by rating animals killed on roads by vehicles and smoking animal dung out of a rusty pipe instead of tobacco.

He spent the majority of his life in a cinder-block shack and sleeps in a hole made in the desert outside the village.

In 2013, A documentary, “The Strange Life of Amou Haji,” was made about his life.
