Rodney King’s Daughter Lora Dene King Begins Foundation To Honor Him

How did Lora Dene King become an activist?
Lora Dene King had a shocking encounter at age 7 while the video of police beating her father in 1991 went viral. She was in a denial phase herself which she confirmed,
“I was in denial – I couldn’t believe it because I’d never seen anything like this.”
Black Lives Matter! Indeed that matter and the rage saw while the public supported her father, she was relieved. From the very beginning, she expected the inhuman behavior of LAPD officers would be held accountable.
It was then that she knew the power the activist held to impact others’ lives. Maybe the incident happened to inspire people to take a stand and have a moral etiquette within themselves.
What happened to Rodney King?
Rodney King, an All-American faced police brutality during his arrest for Driving Under the Influence in 1991. The incident took the world to shock when George Holliday, who filmed the video of what happened sent it to KTLA local news station.
The public furor in the support of Rodney King took the case to the court and King ultimately won it. He got a sum worth $3 million as compensation from the court. The officers were sentenced to prison but the mentality still was not dead.
Rodney King 11 years later the incident was found dead underwater in the swimming pool. Death is similar to his father Ronald King’s death 28 years earlier in a bathtub.
What Lora Dene King have to say about the incident?
Lora Dene King solely believes,
“I think when we speak from our heart and our intent is good that’s memorable. I think that’s why it’s still relatable to this day.”
The reason behind all the movement working as an activist is that Lora is unhappy with the system that used to prevail earlier and today to some extent. She says,
“I feel like the whole system should be reconstructed because obviously what we’re doing is not working for us,” she said. Because we’re still in the same position. “
Eventually, she began stating,
“We are moving forward but then again, right when I have so much hope we have another hashtag of another name. Just so happens it’s not George Floyd or Rodney King or Tamar Rice.”
On opening the Foundation to honor her father, Lora expressed,
“I definitely think he would be proud of where we’re at – but looking for more.”
