English singer, Sam Smith, 31 got together with his British boyfriend, fashion designer, Christian Cowan, 24 on 29 March 2024 to enjoy a romantic outing in New York City. The two were spotted grabbing some coffee before they headed for a walk in the sunny weather. After a short stroll, the two sat down on a bench near the river Hudson and shared a sweet kiss.

Sam was in a soccer shirt with long sleeves. He wore shorts with it. While Christian had put on a furry leather jacket and black-colored long pants. Their last outing was in February this year when they were on a walk in the city before a fashion show.

The relationship timeline of the couple

The two had together attended the function at the White House in mid-December 2022 when Joe Biden repealed the Defense of Marriage Act and signed the new Respect for Marriage Act. Christian was with Sam when he got a tattoo for himself at the Markd Tattoo shop of Australian tattoo artist MJ in January 2023. The same month, the pair was strolling at SoHo in New York arm-in-arm and the two also shared a kiss.

In February 2023, on Valentine’s day, Sam made his presence felt at Christian’s runway show during the New York Fashion Week. He was in the front row. Again, the two were together at Broadway for the hit musical Some Like it Hot. In June and July 2023, they were again taking a walk in New York City. The two attended together the NYC Pride March in June 2023.

In August, the two were at the expensive grocery store Erewhon Market in LA. During Christmas, there were claims that the couple has split since Sam’s profile was found on the dating app, Raya. But Sam denied the rumors and said that their relationship is going strong and the profile on Raya is fake.

Sam and his sexuality

Sam came out as gay in May 2014. He also disclosed at that time that he had a brief relationship with model cum actor Jonathan Zeizel. In 2015, when Sam’s  song Stay with Me won an award at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Sam acknowledged that his breakup led him to write the song. In his acceptance speech, he had said:

“I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys!”

In September 2017, on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Sam revealed that he was dating actor Brandon Flynn. But after nine months of courtship, the two separated in June 2018. Sam came out as genderqueer in October 2017. He had stated at that time:

“I feel just as much a woman as I am a man”

Later, in September 2019, Sam said that he is non-binary and would use the pronouns they/them for himself. He said:

“After a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out…”

Sam is also a feminist and is the godparent of his collaborator and close friend, Jimmy Napes’ son, Jackson.
