Who is Sanjaya Malakar?
Sanjaya Malakar is an American singer who placed as one of the finalists in season six of Season 6. The 32-year-old Seattle native had initially auditioned for American Idol in 2006 alongside his sister Shyamali.
Though sister Shyamali was knocked out during the Hollywood week the then 17-year-old Malakar was praised by judge Simon Cowell.

Sanjaya Malakar’s Ethnicity, Sexuality
Sanjaya Malakar is bisexual by sexuality as he came out recently. The news of his sexuality became spread all over the internet on August 22, 2022. Speaking to host Adam Sank, Malakar who now works as a pastry chef and bartender revealed that,
“I identify as bisexual. At the time [that I was on American Idol], I did not know, which was why it was so weird for me.”
Sanjaya Malakar is the son of Vasudeva Malakar, a Bengali Indian immigrant born in Vrindavan, India. He is of mixed ethnicity as his mother Jillian (Recchi) Blyth belongs to Italian, Dutch, English, and Irish ancestry. He explained it by saying,
“I had a hard time figuring out how to interact with young boys because my dad’s from India and grew up in a temple, so there was never like, ‘This is how you are a boy. And then, my mom is an A-type personality, Italian-American woman, and [so are] her sisters and my sisters and all of that, so growing up I was already the awkward theater kid.”

Sanjaya Malakar confessed his journey of self-exploration
Sanjaya confessed his journey of self-exploration regarding his sexuality throughout the interview. He began with,
“I always got along with theater kids. I always got along with gay kids and girls, so I was like, ‘OK, these are my people.”
He also confessed that his identity was questioned since age 7 and everybody was asking if he was gay but he had no clue. Unless today, he came out as LGBTQ community but not then he stated,
“But I don’t know. Everyone keeps telling me that I am gay, and I’m like, 7. I don’t even have any attraction to anyone, so why are you telling me this?”
