Sanjaya Malakar is an American singer, who finished in seventh place on the sixth season of American Idol.

After his appearance on the show, he was loved by many and gained national attention.

Besides being a singer, he is also a pastry chef and bartender.

Currently, Sanjaya Malakar has been floating in the headlines, after announcing he is bisexual on the DNR Studios podcast, The Adam Sank Show, on August 22, 2022.

He also confessed that his identity was questioned since age 7 and everybody was asking if he was gay but he had no clue.

He added he was not aware of his sexuality even during his appearance in the American Idol Season 6 along with his sister, Shyamali, where he finished in 7th place.

Unless today, Sanjaya Malakar came out as LGBTQ community but not then.

Malakar was born in Seattle, Washington, the United States on September 10, 1989. As of 2022, he is 33 years old while his birth zodiac sign is Virgo as per the astrologers.

He was born to his father, Vasudeva Malakar, who was a Bengali Indian immigrant, and his mother, Jillian (Recchi) Blyth, who was of Italian, Dutch, English, and Irish descent.

Unfortunately, his parents separated when he was three years old.

Similarly, Sanjaya Malakar has a sister named, Shyamali Malakar.

Sanjaya Malakar auditioned for the American Idol Season 6, on September 19, 2006, along with his sister, Shyamali.

During the audition, he sang one of Wonder’s signature songs, ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.’

Next, he sang, ‘Some Kind of Wonderful, ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, ‘You Really Got Me, and others.

For his next performance on March 27, 2007, he sang No Doubt’s Bathwater.

He wore a white suit, donning a slick hairstyle on April 3, 2007, and sang, ‘Cheek to Cheek.’

The next day, it was announced that he had entered the ‘middle three’ among nine contestants of the show.

On April 10 in the Top 8, he sang, “Bésame Mucho” and continued to enter in the Top 7, following his performance on the April 11 results show.

He performed, ‘Something to Talk About‘ prior and got in the bottom three lists. Unfortunately, on April 18, 2207, he was eliminated in 7th place.

Later, he performed in the finale of the American Idol Season 6 along with other top six males.

Though the show ended, he gained huge fame becoming one of the most talked about American Idol contestants.

With the permission of Malakar and his mother, Jillian Blyth, an official fansite with his name was created.

As Malakar was part of the top 10 contestants, he was fit to perform as part of the 2007 American Idol Concert Tour.

The Tour lasted for more than three months in around 50 cities in Canada and U.S.
