Scottish broadcaster Eddie Mair opens up about an attack on him in London!
Eddie Mair has a great going show on BBC Radio 4 but despite being a celebrity he was unable to thwart an attack on him in London. Or was his celebrity status contributed to it? Let us find out all about the assault incident.
The assault
Eddie said that he was walking towards a bus stop when he was returning home after attending a dinner get-together with his friends in London. As he approached the bus stop, he was approached by a gang of three youths who were on their bikes.
They encircled him as they rode the bike and one of them lifted the front wheel of his bike and brought it close to the radio presenter’s face.
Eddie began filming this unprovoked attack on his mobile but the faces of the attackers were hidden behind their hoodies. As Eddie climbed onto the arrived bus, one of the bikers hit him on the face on the side of his head leading to a large bruise over his right ear.
The co-passengers volunteered and assisted Eddie. They also said that they would call the police but Eddie refused since he just wanted to get home fast. He, however, mentioned that the driver of the bus did not help and just looked on.
Eddies’ actions after the incident
Eddie was writing in the Sunday Times after comedian Michael McIntyre was attacked by two men on a moped who also smashed his car windows. He expressed his sympathy for the incident and went on to talk about his incident of assault which happened in December last year. Eddie, 53 who presents the program said:
“I felt I may have been in some way responsible for what happened.”
He narrated:
“I told no one, least of all the police. Not my family or friends. Not work colleagues. I felt shame. I felt I may have been in some way responsible for what happened,”
He wondered whether the video recording irritated the trio who then attacked him. Eddie continued:
“For weeks, every time the local paper reported an assault, I believed that I had contributed to it. More shame,”
Eddie ultimately made up his mind and reported to the local police but due to the delay, they were unable to trace the culprits. The faces of the attackers were also not visible in the video and hence it was difficult to bring them to the book.
The police told him that had he reported within a month of the crime, they had better chances to nab the perpetrators of the crime since CCTV recordings are available for a month.
In South America, some anti-social elements mugged and robbed Eddie and stole his bag. Eddie talked about the incident but did not say whether any valuables, money or important documents were lost with the bag.

The Michael McIntyre attack incident
Comedian Michael McIntyre, 43 got mugged near his children’s school in London by two men on a moped. He was talking about the incident at the Dublin Show which is the first Irish event of his world tour. Michael laughed it out and said that it was a ‘touch and go. He said jokingly:
“They say time is the healer. I have lost my watch, how is time going to heal? I have no idea what time it is.”
Two men attacked him, smashed his car windows, and fled with his costly watch.
Michael told at the show:
“It was not so much the fast and the furious as stationary and panicking. I could not get it [his car] started. It was fight or flight.”
Michael disclosed that he was robbed of his expensive Rolex watch and had it been a cheaper watch, it would have been spared. He concluded by saying:
“I am OK, we are OK. I could have done with you, 9,000 Dubliners. Unfortunately, I had to fend for myself and it did not go well.”
It is learned that Michael sustained no injuries and that no arrests have been made in this case which took place in Golders Green, northwest London.
