Rumors are afloat that all is not well in the life of tennis ace Serena Williams. Her marriage to Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, seems to be in the doldrums. But there has been no official statement on it from Serena or her husband, Alexis Ohanian. What is the truth?

The meeting of world-renowned tennis player, Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian was by chance in May 2015. Alexis was never a tennis fan and had never watched a tennis match on television or in real life. He told Vanity fair:

“I really had no respect for tennis.”

The two were in Rome and seated for breakfast in a restaurant next to each other. Serena was with her friends and invited Alexis to sit with them for breakfast. After that, the two started talking and went on to explore Paris together. Serena invited him to her match at French Open 2015.

Alexis enjoyed the game and started attending Serena’s every game to cheer her. The two went Instagram official in August 2016. On 10 December 2016, Alexis proposed to Serena and she said yes. This was at the same Cavalieri Hotel where they had first met.

On 1 September 2017, their daughter Alexis was born. And on 16 November 2017, the couple wed at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans.

In March 2021, Serena hinted about her marriage issues. She told during Bumble’s The Question Game:

Since last one year, Serena has not posted any pic or video with her husband on social media. She has been spotted on red carpets of several celebrity events and on fashion ramps. But, her husband is conspicuously not with her on these occasions. And recently, Serena was on a summer vacation to Europe with her children. But Alexis was not with them.

Moreover, Serena was at a Gucci show with her sisters, Venus and Lyndrea Price and mother, Oracene. And here again, Alexis was not with the group. Fans have began to wonder about the health of her marriage. Is it collapsing?

More pointers of problems in paradise came when Serena was spotted sans her wedding ring. She also put no post on Father’s day for Alexis on her social media.

And similarly, Alexis has put pics and videos about his fatherhood and professional life and kids on social media. But there is no mention of Serena in them.

As rumors started swirling, on 5 July 2024, Alexis uploaded a photo selfie of himself with Serena on his social media. Both were dining out and smiling to the camera. The tech expert’s left hand was visible and it had the wedding ring on it. He put the simple caption:

“GM.”

One of the fans commented:

“For those who dare to doubt! Love this photo,”

Another fan remarked:

“Shade to the rumors.”

Both were in France in last few weeks: Alexis was at the Cannes Lions Festival in end of June while, around the same time, Serena had several appearances at the Paris Fashion Week. But neither of the pair uploaded any pics of them together on their respective social media.

Another fan wrote about the recent pic on Alexis’ social media:

“I didn’t hear any rumors but if you go on her page she literally has no pics of him anymore on her page and she not following him, I saw that last week and was like that’s weird. But also this pic could be old.”

And another fan predicted:

“Been hearing lots of rumors Serena’s marriage isn’t going so great right now. Wouldn’t be surprised about a divorce announcement at some point. She’s escaped being markled for quite some time, maybe her luck is finally running out.”

This angered another fan who wrote in reply:

“@serenawilliams those forecasting doom and speculating about Serena’s marriage, I wish them a bad summer! The couple will not be the first to divorce, even if that was the case. By first world standards they’ve been together very long so stop the bad mouthing and hating!”
