RIP! Steven Harwell passed away aged 56
Steven Harwell is no longer alive among us! The lead singer of 90s rockers Smash Mouth took his last breath on Monday, September 4, 2023, at his home in Boise, Idaho.
He was just 56. His death was confirmed by his band’s manager Robert Hayes to PEOPLE. Similarly, Smash Mouth paid tribute to their former bandmate on their official Instagram page.
They wrote,
“Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom,”
“And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable. His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones.”
“Steve lived a 100% full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out. Good night Heevo Veev. Rest in peace knowing you aimed for the stars, and magically hit your target.”
Steven Harwell is survived by his fiancee, Annette Jones, a brother Mark, and three sisters, Carla Crocker, Michelle Baroni, and Julie Harwell.

According to a source close to Harwell, the singer had “suffered profusely” with addiction throughout the years, which has contributed to some of his medical and mental health concerns.
