It was in 2019 that American actor, Steve Guttenberg had exchanged wedding vows with his fiancee, Emily Smith. And now, they have decided to part ways. Steve has put in his legal papers in court for divorce.

It is another sad ending to the married life of couple, American actor, Steve Guttenberg, 66 and his wife, Emily Smith, 47. The two have called it quits and have applied for legal separation.

The actor filed for divorce on Friday 4th April 2025 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The reason for divorce he cited is irreconcilable differences. The documents do not have any specific date of separation mentioned in it.

They share no children together. So custody and child support allowance battle is out. But the papers do state that the couple has a prenuptial agreement. As per the agreement, Steve will pay Emily spousal support allowance monthly.

Steve was in news recently when he assisted people and the fire fighting trucks during the Pacific Palisades wildfire from 7th January to 31st January 2025. He helped stranded drivers and assisted in evacuation of the people. He cleared the roads for faster entry of fire trucks. Steve’s house was spared in the fire but he was deeply and emotionally impacted by it.

Emily Smith worked for CBS news. Her colleague, Scott Rapoport had arranged for a blind date for Emily with Steve in 2014. The couple soon became very good friends and started a romantic relationship.

After two years of a smooth courtship period, in December 2016, Steve asked for Emily’s hand in marriage. She accepted his proposal. Emily had posted the engagement announcement on her Facebook. In it, she uploaded a photo of herself showing off her engagement ring. And she wrote below:

The pair had an intimate wedding ceremony on 19th January 2019 in Malibu, California.

Prior to this marriage, Steve was dating model Denise Bixler. They walked down the aisle together on 30th September 1988. But this marriage did not last long and Steve and Denise separated in June 1991. The court granted them divorce in 1992.

Who is Emily Smith?

Emily Smith hails from Grand Island, Erie County, New York. She is 47 years of age now and was 19 years younger to Steve. Whether the wide age gap led to the split is difficult to say.

Emily is a TV personality. She is a journalist by profession and has worked as a reporter and an anchor on some shows on CBS channel.

In 2010, she was a host of The CBS Morning Show. She was also anchoring Living Large show on CBS TV.

Emily has also worked as a reporter for WBEN, the commercial AM radio station from Buffalo, New York.
