The head judge from Strictly Come Dancing, who is 64 years old, has been in a relationship with Danny for nearly six years and was engaged for almost three years.

According to reports, Shirley called off their engagement about six months ago.

However, they continued to see each other until recently, when sources confirmed that they have now officially separated. An insider commented on the breakup, stating,

“As with any break-up, it is, of course, a very sad situation. She gave her all to that relationship and in the end came to the realisation that it wasn’t going anywhere. She made a lot of effort to see Danny and support his theatre and panto work, travelling up and down the country. Distance also played its part – Shirley lives in London with her mother and Danny remains based in Liverpool; that commute is a killer.”

Despite the split, the former couple still follows each other on social media and maintains a friendship.

The former professional dancer admitted that she fell in love much earlier than Danny did. She fondly reminisced about the moment she told him “I love you,” long before he was ready to reciprocate those feelings.

During an appearance on Loose Women, Shirley opened up about the early stages of their relationship. She explained,

“We met on panto as friends. It didn’t really take off until March… for him. I fell in love way before… I think for me it was first sight. He was going through a difficult time in his relationship. We did become friends and then probably in about February I said, ‘I love you Danny’ and he said, ‘I know’. It took a while,”

In a previous interview with HELLO!, Shirley referred to Danny as “the one,” as she shared an insight into their loving relationship. She expressed her deep love for him, stating,

“I just love that man I just want to sit there all day and stare at him. He is ‘The One’. We have a lot in common and we laugh all the time. He is part of the reason why I readjusted my life. Danny is just so magnificently special. I have met his parents and everybody likes each other. That’s a plus.”

What’s Shirley Ballas’ thought on marriage following two divorces?

Shirley has expressed her desire to marry Danny Taylor since their engagement. She humorously mentioned that if she took the name ‘Shirley Ballas-Taylor,’ she would allow her to follow in the footsteps of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor by “collecting” spouses.

Over time, her perspective on marriage has changed dramatically. She stated that she no longer wanted to walk down the aisle again and had “changed her mind” about marriage.

During a candid conversation on Alan Carr‘s podcast, she revealed that she did not plan to marry again after a long-term relationship ended just before a cruise trip to Honolulu with her mother.

She recounted a moment during the trip when she felt upset. She stated,

“I was in a long-term relationship and he finished with me two days before I went on the cruise, I just remember being in the Waikiki bar with my mother and I was whining and crying and she gave me a huge slap across my face… and said, ‘You will not ruin my holiday, get over yourself. [Expletive] happens’. I think I was the most miserable on the biggest event that I had prepared for my mother.”

Shirley added,

“Two marriages, an engagement, two long-term relationships later and I will not be getting married again. I’ve made the decision.”

Shirley has been married twice before. Her first marriage was to Sammy Stopford from 1980 to 1984, followed by a second marriage to Corky Ballas from 1985 until their divorce in 2007.

In a 2021 interview with Prima magazine, Shirley described her relationship with Danny as life-changing, praising him for being “very kind and very caring.”

She had expressed hope that he would propose one day. Unfortunately, the couple did not end up marrying and have since parted ways after six years together.
