During the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, he recovered and returned a blocked punt for a crucial touchdown, helping a 13–10 victory for the 49ers.

Similarly, in week 4 of the 2022 season, he had a 52-yard pick-six in the 24–9 victory over Los Angeles Rams. He started in all 17 regular season games and all three playoff games for the 49ers in the 2022 season. He recorded 97 total tackles, four interceptions, nine passes defended, and two forced fumbles.

He was nominated for a Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro. He was ranked 78th by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2023 list.

In Week 11 of the 2023 season, Hufanga tore his ACL and was placed on injured reserve on November 21, 2023. He ended the season with ten starts. Despite his absence, the 49ers made it to Super Bowl LVIII but lost 25–22 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
