She co-wrote Warner Brother’s Lepke in 1974, starring Tony Curtis. Later, she wrote and produced Stony Island with Andrew Davis, an independent film.

Tamar Simon Hoffs was accepted to attend the prestigious AFI Directing Workshop for Women in 1980.

Her directorial debut was a short comedy The Haircut, starring John Cassavetes, which was an official selection of the 1983 Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, and Sundance Film Festival, and received a Sundance Institute commendation from Robert Redford.

The Allnighter, a big studio feature picture, made Hoffs the first woman to obtain the triple director/writer/producer designation.

In 2003, Hoffs wrote, directed, and produced Red Roses and Petrol, a film starring Malcolm McDowell and Max Beesley that was based on Joseph O’Connor’s theatrical play of the same name.
