Tartine and its presence in Hollywood
Tartine has entered the market of California anew in the form of cafes. It is a San Francisco-based company that was managing a bakery and joint restaurant earlier.
The first cafe to come up is in Hollywood at Sycamore and Willoughby. This is just to the east of La Brea between Santa Monica and Melrose.
The next site for this brand-new cafe group would be Silver Lake. There are more cafe sites in the pipeline which would materialize soon.
The neighborhood in Hollywood where Tartine has launched its first project is undergoing rapid changes.
It is called the Hollywood Media District and has several ongoing developments in the street and one block away from the cafe.
There are other restaurants in the vicinity including Rao’s, Spoonfed/Bar Joe, and the old-school brunch spot Grub.
Tartine Sycamore will open in mid-August and its opening hours would be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 pm. on Saturdays and Sundays. Currently, they will remain open only during the day but evening hours will come up later this year.
About Tartine
The company was co-founded by Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt. The coffee is from Christopher Jordan and the Coffee Manufactory crew.
Tartine is starting these cafe restaurants on its own. But before this, it did have a restaurant called The Manufactory Downtown. But this project is jointly owned by Chef Chris Bianco.
The company also has a bakery in the Mission district in San Francisco. This bakery was opened in 2002 at two places in Point Reyes and Mill Valley.
These places were where the two owners Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt had their Bay Village Bread bakery. They also have Bar Tartine nearby. Tartine means open-faced sandwich in French.
Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt won James Beard Foundation awards in 2008 after being nominated twice before in 2006 and 2007.
New York Times columnist Mark Bittman says that it is his favorite bakery.
The menu of Tartine’s new independent projects
The new cafes that Tartine is inaugurating will have breakfast and lunch services as well. The chef de cuisine is Alyssa Lisle. Alyssa Lisle was working before this with Chris Bianco at Tartine Bianco.
Additionally, she has experience working at Republique and Bouchon Beverly Hills. The menu will comprise traditional American breakfasts to toast, sandwiches, salads, and soups.
About the cafe space
Boor Projects has designed the whole setup and interior of the cafes. It is a medium-sized cafe that can accommodate 40 diners. 10 more can sit in the atrium of the renovated industrial building. Lots of red brick, greenery, and dual fireplaces exist inside the area.
