Her death was confirmed by his family member on Wednesday, August 9, issuing a heartfelt statement on her respective Instagram handle. The statement began,
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing. We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribably pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected, and has left us all in shock,”
The post continued while acknowledging the death of her brother, Jason Tian, as well. They asked to respect their privacy during this difficult time and revealed the cause of their death is still under review.
The statement concludes,
“Claire will forever remain in our hearts, her absence leaving an irreplaceable void that will be felt by all who knew and loved her.”

Who was Lil Tay’s brother, Jason Tian?
Jason Tian was a 21-year-old older half-brother of Lil Tay. He had also pursued his career as a rapper under the stage name Rycie.
However, his rap career didn’t take off, and started handling his sister’s social media handles. In 2021, Jason was accused of creating his sister Tay’s online personality after the video from May 2018 went viral on Twitter.
In the video, he was coaching his sister, telling her to be “more ignorant” when speaking in her videos.
The same year, he created a GoFundMe campaign for his sister, who had disappeared from public life in 2018. The campaign was initiated to raise funds for his sister to allegedly “save Tay from a life of abuse.”
On the GofundMe page, Tian shared Tay’s bruised face and accused Christopher and his wife Hanee Hope of physically and mentally abusing her sister. He alleged,
“My sister Tay has been silent on social media for the past 3 years because her absentee father (Chris Hope) served my mother a court order demanding control over Tay’s money, career, and custody, and as a result it was court ordered that my sister had to return to Vancouver, Canada,”

Lil Tay, whose real name was Claire Hope, was a teen rapper and social media influencer from Atlanta, Ga. She later moved to Vancouver British Columbia.
Lil came into the limelight of the media in 2018 after a video of herself rapping went viral online at the age of 9. She often posted videos on social media proudly showing off her lavish lifestyle and flaunting her money and luxury.
She has amassed over 3 million followers on Instagram over the course of her short career. Her last post was uploaded in June 2018 prior to the post announcing her death, dedicated to the later rapper XXXTentacion, referring to him as a “father figure”.

On June 18, 2018, XXXTentacion was fatally shot and killed after being robbed in his car in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
