Her viewers get a rude shock
Gardeners’ World has collected quite a significant number of viewers and fans over the years. They were in for a shock when Rachel announced live on TV that she is suffering from breast cancer.
Rachel was recently sighted at the Chelsea Flower Show and was questioned about the reason for her absence from the TV series. She gave a reply that stunned everyone. Rachel, 56 disclosed that she is suffering from breast cancer.
Rachel who is also a mother to four children said:
“I haven’t been hiding but I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the year and so I have been undergoing treatment for that.
“I’m doing well and coming towards the end of it. It was caught early so that’s all very positive.”
Rachel who is also a former model also credited her passion for gardening as the great support that helped her to maintain her general well-being as she battles breast cancer. She went on to state:
“I know there’s a big message this year at Chelsea about the importance of gardening for your general health and mental health…if you’re going through some chronic illness, whatever it is… it’s vital to go out and be in a garden.”
“I have literally been clinging on to the things I love – my friends, family and my garden.”

Support for the star poured in from all quarters on social media. There were words of kindness and strength.

Host Monty Don said that
“anybody who knows Rachel would knows that wild horses wouldn’t have kept her from Chelsea this year”.
He added:

About Rachel de Thame
Rachel is born on 13 October 1961 and is 56 years of age as of now. Her hometown is Camden, London. Rachel learned dancing and drama. She worked with an international firm of art dealers before she got married. She also has worked as a model and was successful in the TV ads world. Additionally, she also did quite many acting roles.
1998 marked a change in her life when she left acting and took to her passion which was gardening. This passion she shares and inherits from her father. She further honed her skills by studying for two years at the English Gardening School, studying Practical Horticulture and Plants & Plantsmanship. She also has won awards for her gardening skills and show.
Rachel’s personal life
Rachel has been married twice. Her first husband was Stephen Colover whom she wed in June 1986. The couple has two children and Joe. They divorced in 1993.
She then remarried and her second husband is Gerard de Thame. They also have two children named Emma and Olivia.
