Bradley Lowery and his Rare Disease
The six-year-old Sunderland super-fan was from Blackhall Colliery, near Hartlepool. But the poor kid battled cancer his almost entire life before he lost the battle on July 7, 2017, making our hearts weak.
He was first diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at the age of 18 months since then he has been battling the dangerous disease bravely. However, the little guy was able to beat the disease once but the disease was too powerful as it came back sometime in remission in July 2016.
Having cancer come back, the Parents of the brave boy desperately started raising money for treatment in the US. Still, the Doctors delivered heartbreaking news as they said that the boy’s disease had become terminal.
That was the breaking point but Bradley was strong enough to battle it till now, until his mother Gemma announced on Facebook that the youngster sadly lost his battle with cancer at 13:35 on July 7.
Also, the money raised on the treatment of Bradley’s Cancer will not go wasted as all the money remaining will be put into the Bradley Lowery Foundation to support others going through the same ordeal. Lowery’s family said Friday in a statement on its Facebook page that he died in the arms of his mother and father.
The statement said,
“he was our little superhero and put the biggest fight up but he was needed elsewhere.”

Neuroblastoma effect on Bradley Lowery
At the age of just 18 months, while Lowery was developing cancer, he first developed a tumor. It was large and putting pressure on some of his major organs and arteries.
It eventually spread to his chest, lungs, lymph nodes, bone, and bone marrow but, after major surgery and high doses of chemotherapy, he managed to pull through and went into remission.
But sadly cancer returned in July 2016, and on December 2016, his family was told it was terminal. The little boy’s cancer continued to progress and his family kept people up to date with pictures of the little boy smiling on his hospital bed on Facebook.
In a post to Facebook on May 10, Bradley’s mom Gemma had told how “things are moving too fast” after an MRI scan showed his condition had taken a turn for the worse and he spent his sixth birthday in Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The little boy had to cancel his plans to Disneyland as there was a new tumor found in his neck. Days later it was revealed he was having palliative care as he also had tumors in his lungs and the cancer was ‘spreading at a fast rate’.
Gemma posted a picture of her son on Facebook and said:
“I would just like to show you regardless of the pain he is in and that he is going through a hard time he still managed the most beautiful smile #myhero.”
In June 2017, the devastated mom posted a heartbreaking picture of the pained youngster with his older brother – as she revealed he was ‘deteriorating fast’.
And by the end of the month, it was revealed Bradley had just days to live and had a ‘bed party’ where he said goodbyes to loved ones before snuggling up with Jermain Defoe.
Jermain Defoe’s Tribute to Bradley Lowrey
Jermain Defoe and Bradley Lowrey were able to strike a close friendship and the former Sunderland player was in tears while paying tribute to his best pal admitting that the terminally ill six-year-old only has ‘days’ to live.
Defoe asked for two minutes to compose himself when asked about Bradley at a press conference on Thursday.
“He’s obviously struggling. I can say it’s a matter of days,” the 34-year-old said.
As he wiped away tears he added:
“It’s been hard because I have kept this in for so long.”
Defoe, who befriended Bradley while playing for Sunderland. He described their relationship as the ‘highlight of his season,’ and has promised to keep in touch with the family.
“I speak to the family every day. I was with him a few days ago and it was tough to see him suffer like that,” Defoe said at the press conference.
“He will always be in my heart for the rest of my life. There isn’t a day that goes past when I don’t wake up and check my phone or think about little Bradley.
“His love is genuine and I can see it in his eyes when he looks at me.”

Defoe who is currently a striker for Bournemouth also revealed he has many pictures of Bradley.
He said: “I have so many pictures around the house – even the house I’m in now and I’ve only been in there a few days. There’s pictures of me and Brad – going out for the first time against Everton and then throughout the season”.
Bradley’s champion smile, in spite of all the troubles he has endured, has moved football fans and the British public. Defoe attended the Pride of North East Awards in May.
He was named Child of Courage, and paid tribute to him, saying:
“As a person, he has changed me because of what he’s going through at such a young age.”
Social media became flooded with messages filled with blue heart emojis in a show of support for Bradley in the wake of his passing.
